Laptop Changing Brightness On Its Own!

Currently have a Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520

    With the following specifications;

    I7 3632QM
    8GB RAM
    AMD 7730M / Intel HD 4000
    1TB 5400 RPM Drive
    Windows 8

Every so often my screen changes brightness ever so slightly when watching movies or flicking between web pages. I've been trying to do some research and I've looked at the Enable / Disable adaptive brightness thing in the power options and altering that doesn't remove the problem. I read somewhere that on the AMD Catalyst there is an option to turn off Vari-Bright. I have no such option on my Catalyst. The third thing I've tried is going into the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel and turning off the Adaptive Contrast Enhancement. All these haven't worked for me and it is still changing brightness on its own. It's not like its going from bright to dark its quite a subtle change but knowing its still none the less rather annoying!

It's driving me up the wall!

Would greatly appreciate any insight into a solution to this problem!

    Thanks!

I know you've probably already tried this but have you went into power settings and checked the dim display after period settings?

    ------------

    Edit:

If there is no input activity, such as watching a movie, that setting would apply itself.

It doesn't just dim it goes higher and lower depending on what is on the laptop screen.

Sounds then like an ambient light sensor is adjusting it.

If you can't figure it out with the available apps while in windows then try going into the BIOS (F12) at boot POST and see what is available there.

Also - check in the control panel for anything that could be associated with that.

Since it is late - I'll make the suggestion to head over to Dell and see if there is any info that might help regarding sensors.

There is an option on AMD GPU laptops called something like "vari-bright". Disable it.

Yeah I've already said I've looked in the catalyst where that option is supposed to be and its not there. I would have thought the AMD Vari-Bright would only work when it's active as well seen as my laptop has switchable / optimus graphics.

Isn't AMD's version of switchable graphics called "Enduro" not optimus, I mean you are not trying optimus/nvidia fix's on this?

Well yeah but it's nothing to do with that. Like I've said I've already gone into both the catalyst and intel suites and turned off all the adaptive brightness bits. I need some new ideas...

I doubt its a AMD problem anyway seen as the AMD card isn't activated until I play games, its turned off on general browsing, the problem happens without the amd card running....

I was just calling it switchable / optimus graphics as not all people are familiar with them.

It should be under Power settings for in Catalyst control center under "PowerPlay". Unless things have changed recently.

For your specific model: Dell Inspiron and Dell Studio Forum

Check in Advanced Power Options for something related.

    Call Dell Support.

If you find a resolution we would be interested in what it was.

Looked in the advanced power options, the only thing that I can see is the ambient light sensor bit but its already turned off. :/
