Hey Guys, Im DIEING HERE, Heres the deal: I did a full reformatted to my HP laptop dv6700 (specs below) from a Downgraded XP Home OS (bought it originally running Vista) to a currently Windows 7 Ultimate. I connect my laptop to my toshiba tv via a VGA cord. Now my laptop screen for some messed up reason is no longer displaying. But when it is connected via VGA i can use the computer just fine using my TV as my only screen. The problem is I cannot get the laptop to display. After multiple shutdowns and force restarts, and after leaving the laptop for a decent period of time i turn it on and it will random again display on my laptop, I have concluded from this that it is less likely a hardware problem and more likely a software one. I have the correct latest driver from nvidia. Another noteworthy point is that the Toshiba is only screen recgonized when i am in the screen resolution menu.

Device Manager Display adapter is the updated version of NVIDIA GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M
Monitors in Device Monitor is Generic PnP Monitor

Thanks for the quick response. When its not acting up it will work completely fine like you would expect a regular latop, but when it is acting up, it displays nothing on the laptop from start to shutdown, but rather will display everything on my vga connected toshiba tv.

if things aren't displaying even before windows loads, then it's much less likely to be a software issue.

Ok is there a realatively definitive way to confirm this? I mean it works every so often which confuses me when i try to diagnose the problem? Any other possible suggestions please? Thanks.

When there is 'nothing on the screen' try hold up a torchlight, or go in a brightish place and check if there is anything being displayed. The backlight/inverter might have died.

Right, but thats my point, If I restart and mess around with it enough it will work correctly, but then after a shutdown or vga connection this problem will continue again. Its not like its gone black and i haven't been able to get it to work again, but im just trying to find a permanent solution, thanks for your effort and any other suggestions would be great from anyone +_+

If I am getting this, the TV is hooked up while this is happening? Try going into the control panel, display, then on the left, click change display settings. Check the "identify" link on the right, and see if it is showing your tv as the default. Click display under the screen icon. You can change which display there. You should be able to do this if the computer screen is blank but the tv is displaying the screen.

When i follow ur instructions, instead of showing 2 monitors available it shows "1. Toshiba-TV" With no second option, and hitting detect won't help either because when i do then look at available monitors it just shows the same 1. toshiba-tv . See attached Picture.
