Laptop is sager np 2740. I connect my laptop to an external monitor and use an external keyboard and wireless mouse. I have 3 usb ports in my laptop but 1 broke. Because of that, one of the ports i connect the usb for wireless mouse. The other port is those port hubs where i connect my keyboard and other things to it. thus i can connect few things to that usb hub.

So i noticed this problem when i was online where when i was trying to log into my accounts, i couldn't log in. I then noticed the reason was because everytime i pressed shift, it kept on pasting a line that i had earlier copied and paste etc. So when i press shift... let say the word i had copied and paste earlier was notebookreview. So when i type in shift... it would type notebookreview. If i press it again... it would type in notebookreview 2 times or 4 times. Thus if im typing in a password and let say my password was Review. Well i have to Shift R then type eview. But i couldn't log in and notice because everytime i press shift... it would type in notebookreview. Normally i log into accounts by copy and pasting from keepass but i have huge issue with that as well so that was why i was typing it manually.

The other issue is i noticed keepass2 which i use for password, when i clicked on an account, it would have that Add entry box meaning i want to create a new entry. I then X it out but it keeps reappearing over and over again. I can't close it. The only way was to control alt delete then close program. When i do this, you see a message very quickly before it shuts that this program is not responding. So i then open keepass again and when i put in my passcode etc, i then click on any account and i get same message over and over. The only way i could fix it was unplug the usb hub which included my external keypad. Then on my laptop... go and pressed Fn and Ins Number lock. When i did this, i was able to X the Add Entry in keepass2 with the mouse scrollpad on my laptop. But when i then connected the usb hub back to one of the 2 ports on my laptop, i get the same issue over again with keepass and the add entry. Im pretty positive this has to do with my laptop/keyboard though i dont believe its the mouse.

My other issue is earlier today on certain sites, it kept pressing enter enter enter over and over. It was like my keyboardout of control. I then noticed that when i unconnected my usb hub from my usb port on laptop and also the external monitor... so i could use the laptop just by itself... the keyboard doesn't even type at all. Does that mean my keyboard is broken? I cannot type anything at all. Right now im typing on my external keyboard attached to a port of the usb hub that is attached to one of the 2 usb ports on my laptop. When i mention my keyboard was out of control, i meant my external keyboard attached to the usb hub which is connected to one of the 2 usb ports on my laptop.

I used avast and malwarebytes though free version and it doesn't show any viruses of any sort. Can someone tell me what i can do here? This is really frustrating and i have no idea why im having this issue. But my laptop keyboard doesn't seem to work at all. Earlier i did but it only typed in letters. Does anyone here have this issue or know what this could be?

as you can see it basically keeps pasting when i type in shift. this is from my external keyboard that i use almost always since i rarely use my laptop keyboard since im almost always connected to external monitor. anyone have any tips on what i can do here i cant even type in question mark because this requires me pressing shift and when i do that, it will paste the above... i do not believe its a virus. i feel like it has to be my system/keyboard etc...

Is your USB hub a "powered" hub. That is, do you connect a power cord into the hub in addition to the usb cable?

Start by disconnecting everything. Then connect your external keyboard directly to the laptop USB port, does it work properly?

If so, the keyboard is fine.

If it is fine, connect the hub to the laptop, then plug only the keyboard into the hub.

Does the keyboard work properly now? If so, plug your mouse into the hub.

At one of these tests, I expect it to fail.

Do you have another computer on which to test the devices?

Your best hope is a bad hub.

Check your chipset and USB 3.0 drivers.

hi there. this is the one i have. it has blue lights so yes i think...

    https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-4-Po...e=UTF8&qid=1472874845&sr=1-4&keywords=usb+hub

i removed that hub from the laptop and connected my external keyboard to the usb port. when i press shift... it does same thing pasting...

i do have another laptop. the issue though is it has an even worst problem. basically i cannot left click anything at all. so i dont even use that laptop at all because of it. that problem is even worst and unusable. its an old laptop and i cannot click anything really. i cant web browse since the keyboard doesnt even work at all.

how do i check chipset and usb etc i like to also mentioned its been a very long time since i even did a windows update. thus its been very long since any updates has been installed. i assume that could not be the reason...

it has to be the laptop keyboard or something because i cannot even type anything when on the laptop by itself...

You can download and reinstall the chipset and usb drivers from here:
    https://www.sagernotebook.com/drivers.php?cat=579

You may have stuck keys on your laptop keyboard. Have you spilled any liquids on it or maybe its dirty underneath the keys, animal hair, food, etc?

i heard about the stuck keys... i read about that online. when you mention stuck keys, u mean the external keyboard or you mean the laptop keyboard? the laptop keys are chicklet style like a macbook so there shouldn't be anything under those keys. However i did had to get battery replaced in my laptop and this required opening the laptop up but i did this in a computer repair shop without issues.

i do not believe i got any liquid on it. well my external keyboard the back of it is very dirty etc and theres a lot of dirty stuck to the sides of the keys etc. there were crumbs and some hair that was inside the external keyboard but got few of them out now. However i dont think the issue is my external keyboard. its something to do with my actual laptop such as the laptop keyboard itself or the system.

I think so too, if these symptoms are occurring without the external keyboard plugged in, it points to the internal keyboard.

I was thinking your internal keyboard is damaged or dirty.

You could remove the internal keyboard and try just the external keyboard to test.

okay so when i tried typing on the laptop keyboard... j types as 1, k types as 2 and L types as 3. I googled it and its mentioned its something with the number lock. However i shift number lock and fn number lock and when i do this, my laptop keyboard doesn't work at all.

well i dont know how my laptop could be dirty because i keep it in same place and rarely even carry it its chicklet keyboard so if theres dirty things under it, it would be noticeable.

how do i remove the internal keyboard and what do you mean by that? i assume u mean turn it off? If so what key to do that? I dont mind just using the external keyboard as its almost always plugged into the laptop and with external monitor. but i want to get this issue fixed.

okay so i went to keyboardtester.com and tried to type the keys in my laptop keyboard to see if any keys are broken.

basically the keys does work except the jkl types as 123. Also when i type 123456, it would show im typing it from the top. but with 789 it shows on the numberpad. note my laptop doesn't have a number pad

what can i do now then? I would like to get this fixed though i wouldnt mind just using the external keyboard only. the issue is the shift and the keepass thing keeps having add entry and it clicks everything it seems.

okay so i clicked fn and number lock on my laptop keyboard. Now the j k l types correctly.

but im guessing it still will have the same issue later on with the shift... do you think it will? as of now, seems to be fine but im sure it will again

i like to know how to disable the laptop keyboard for now and only use the external. anyone else have thoughts on this?

It sounds like you just have Numlock enabled. Try pressing the numlock by itself, then type a few letters/numbers to test. Then press the Function (Fn) key with Numlock at the same time and repeat the test. One of those combinations will enable and disable the numpad buttons. Your laptop does have a numpad that is overlayed on the right side of the keyboard.

Look at this screenshot from the manual for your laptop.
    NP2740 keyboard.JPG

You can download the full manual here:
    http://clevo.com/clevo_down.asp?lang=en

Just click the drop-down menu and select your Clevo model.
    Sager NP2740 = Clevo W740SU

It is good to read this manual as it will help you become more familiar with your laptop.

I'm trying to upload a picture of the numpad area, but the server is acting up.

Please look closely at the picture I uploaded earlier, I am not saying you have a 10-key numpad off to the side of your keyboard.
I am saying you have a 10-key numpad overlayed on the right half of the keyboard, that is activated only when numlock is enabled/disabled.
Look at the red outlined area below.
    NP2740 keyboard outlined.jpg

If your keyboard doesn't have the small numbers next to each letter in this area, then its possible your keyboard was replaced with a non-OEM keyboard at some time.

The only methods I can think of at the moment are:
    1. Try to Disable the device in Device Manager under the section Human Interface Device. Because there will be many devices listed with generic names, you'll have to disable and re-enable one by one until you find the internal keyboard. To be frank, I don't know if any of them are really the internal keyboard, since there is a Keyboard section there as well.
    or
    2. Disassemble the laptop and disconnect the keyboard ribbon cable under the keyboard.

Why disable it entirely though? Have you determined that the internal keyboard is bad?

went to device manager. there are 2 keyboard... the 2nd one is external. the internal should be HID keyboard device? The only option there is would be uninstall... i dont see disable etc... And i dont want to uninstall it because i dont want other problems....

well i do not want to disconnect the cable under they keyboard. this would require me to go to repair shop and have them do it. i want to basically turn it off. Like shouldnt there be a button to turn/turn off keyboard ?

Well because if disable internet keyboard, then i wont have any of these issues... with my external keyboard...

You cant turn off a internal keyboard unless you unplug it

Uninstalling the keyboard device wont harm a thing because it'll tell you to restart your PC after doing so then it reinstall the keyboard drivers after loading up your OS. It really looks like a defective keyboard. I googled your laptop model and its pretty easy to replace the keyboard compared to most laptops these days which you would have to gut it including removing the motherboard in order to get to the keyboard area. Anyways just try unplugging/replugging the ribbon cable of the keyboard
