One of my favorites is power management software called speedswitchxp. It's free and gives you more control over pwoer settings.

Centrino Hardware Control and RMClock are usually much more effective,
free and easy to find by googling.

PS - It's good idea to accumulate here useful software tools for notebooks.
If the thread will live I will also contribute.

One that I use for monitoring different areas is StatBar. You can customize it to show different things. Just to name a few: RAM usage, CPU usage, uptime, volume control, battery life, incoming/outgoing traffic, winamp controls, etc...

Here is another thread from awhile back that might have some good suggestions... Essential Software

One of my favorites is Netswitcher.

I use it to easily set network settings (i.e. static IP at work vs. dynamic at home), default printer and outgoing mail server. Since I take my laptop home everynight from work, this utility is invaluable.
