Recently my 7 years old Clevo D901C are starting to have problems. I am currently looking for a new laptop, but that's not what we're going to discuss about.
What I am wanting to ask is what causes your entire screen to freeze and not responsive. The desktop is completely frozen, time stamp in corner is frozen, can't use mouse, can't use the keyboard, no hard drive activity. It is just on with a website open (facebook). Can't open task manager, start, or anything.
I know everyone can just say press the power button and perform a hard reset, but I want to know what causes it. It started acting like this way recently.
The laptop is a Clevo D901c with Windows 7 professional 64bit.
(lm using my phone right now.)

Usually a hard lock like this is the video card. It could be the card itself down to just a resource conflict and/or drivers. Too little info to do a real diagnosis as it stands.

could be a number of things. as said maybe the gpu. can you post the rest of your spec.
could be the hard drive. just a couple of bad sectors could cause all heeps of problems, been there had that.
run a sector scan with HD Tune found in link below.
are you using firefox? as for the last 3 releases i get at least 1 freeze a day. most prob not this but worth mentioning.
as said the more info you can give the better. -
A shot in the dark: remove the battery, run the machine on AC only and see whether the freezing goes away.
Good luck. -
Hello everyone,
It was my GPU, it died this morning. Endless screen restarting and "nvidia failure and successfully recovered".
The screen would be fine, then artifacts would pop up, black screen, screen comes back with nvidia error...repeat.
Oh well, I guess it's at the end of life for my 7 years old Clevo D901C, back on my 8 years old Dell Inspiron 1520.
I will be trying one last attempt...baking the GPU. Take out the MXM videocard, remove it from heatsink, clean it, then bake it, then put it back together.
I can't sell it, it's beautiful. It's a Falcon Northwest DRX fully custom painted in Cherry Red or Candy Apple paint. I purchased this from a owner who went out of business.
Thank you for your help. -
Probably MXM but is it single or SLI and then what will replacements cost. Other thing is the packaging material issue with 8xxxm cards too.

It is a single 9800M GTX Mxm 2.1 he Type III. I am looking at replacing it with the FX3700M and flash it into Nvidia GeForce.
It's not my top priority, my priority is to find a new computer to use for college. I'm just waiting for CES2015 to reveal some laptops.
Laptop completely frozen and unresponsive.
