Laptop only booting in SAFE mode, cannot use certain programs

Hello Guys,

Well, problem is stated on the tin. The laptop has been on the brink for a little while now, however due to being overseas I cannot get it fixed until at least a month. In the mean time, it is critical that I use it for work and videos (lots of time off on the middle of no where).

So problem is this. Up until a day ago, it worked fine but always gets too hot even when not under load. After an hour it starts to respond slower but its fine for watching movies. Now...suddenly it has stopped booting. I have to tap f8 to boot into safe mode with networking, and this is the only way it will start up and I can use the internet. Yesterday I managed to painstakingly change the registry to allow SOUND....so I have sound now, and can play (poor quality) videos through VLC luckily, a life saver. However I cannot open anything from office, which I require to edit documents for work! It is an embarrassing problem to have. PDF's open...so I downloaded a PDF editor however I cannot install new programs either! When opening Word documents, it opens so far then an error messaging to do with licensing comes up and it closes down. I can open in notepad...but it is all mumbo jumbo and I couldnt do a thing here.

Laptop: m17x R3, Alienware. 1 SSD w/operating system, 1 750gb.

When I leave the system to boot as normal, it goes as far as the Windows 7 and logo in front of a black screen, then suddenly turns even DARKER and does not progress anymore (logo and words vanish here).

Any help greatly appreciated! I do not expect to fix the problem however being able to use Word would be great!

Additional info: the power lead has become a little...detached at the head. As in the wires are exposed on the cable end where it inserts into the laptop. It has been like this for months, but now starting to emit electric shocks! Nothing painful, but a shock none the less, and when inserted to charge the laptop and you accidentally touch the VGA port for example - it shocks! The wires are not cut at all just merely exposed. It's bad I know...but I have nothing I can do about this. Perhaps this fried something internally?!

 

I think you are getting the best that can be achieved until steps are taken to repair the problem described in the second post. Letting this go unchecked could create bigger problems. If what you're doing is important, well...

 

It is important...ways and means I know, I just dont like having to sponge other peoples laptops because mine cannot open word haha! Appreciate the honest words though....I'll just wait out for now

 

When you hit F8 you should have the option "Last Known Good Configuration(advanced)" to choose, did you try that?

 

Hello and sorry for late response. I did try that yes, but it just crashes in same place on the load up
