Not sure how this occurred so...to describe it is like this:
When I shutdown my laptop, all other running programs shutdown and I see the shutdown prompt and then my computer's screen turns off. Then my laptop's fan cranks up its speed and that's it, the computer remains running. I left it there for 1 hour and is still hasn't shutdown unless I hold the power button down. Same goes with restart.
So far I disabled fast boot and checked other options like uninstall intel engine but I don't have it installed.
So anyone know why this happens?
[BONUS] I haven't looked hard on this yet, but my Laptop seems to turn on its own during sleep mode. My mouse is disabled and and it wakes up during the night. This happened twice already.

Could be several things, try system restore to before this happened.

Yeah, My machine has a problem with fast boot and not waking up from sleep or turning off completely, but you have tried that, also check the graphics driver and re-install it.

Before restoring or anything else try to boot using Safe Mode with Networking and see if you can use the shutdown process without problem then next will come diagnosing the problem.

Sorry to revive my old post, the reason this was brought back up because the issue occurred again. However I may have identified the problem.
My issue was gone and I couldn't figure out how and why. Later, I decided to switch from Discrete to MSHybrid for the purpose of longer battery life during my travels. When I tried to shut down my PC. This exact problem returned. My Monitor turned off after shutting down prompt....PC still ran....so on. I decided to switch back to Discrete and the problem is gone. So the issue has to do with MSHybrid and I ask if there is a way to fix this? My Drivers are updated on Intel and Nvidia GPUs but I am sure there is more to this. -

Time to format and do a clean install with the latest build of Windows -
Try disabling hybrid startup via cmd prompt: powercfg -h off

Correct, but the thing is, if hibernation is disabled, then Hybrid Shutdown AKA Fast Startup Also gets disabled. Reason being, the hybrid shutdown is a mix of a hibernation state without doing the full hibernation and a shut down. Basically, it saves the state of the OS like the loaded drivers and system processes then shuts down which in a perfect scenario should enable a system to startup faster since once on the desktop, all those things are kind of loaded from the hiberfile.sys but off-course this feature sometimes doesn't work perfectly and may or may not cause boot issues or black screens until one forcefully shuts downVasudev and alexhawker like this. -
