    Laptop running hotter with Windows 7?

    I've been using Windows 7 64 for about a month now and I like it a lot, but I've noticed that my Thinkpad X61s has been running a lot hotter than it did with Vista 64.

    Has anyone else noticed this?

    I'd say that it's because it's summer, but I know that's only partially true, since you're in Massachusetts.

    Just saying that's probably only one effect that can explain the heat, if other people from different locations also experience the same thermal distinction.

    Remember that beta / RC drives are likely not yet fully optimized. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if a laptop were running a little hotter on an unreleased operating system.

    BTW, are you using any of the beta drivers from Lenovo found here?

    Go into power profile, change the cooling to active cooling instead of passive cooling. Windows 7 throttle down your fans to extend the battery life. if you don't want this feature, switch to active cooling and temp will return to normal.

    I live in MA too and the weather's only gotten hot the past week. The weather's actually been relatively cooler this summer. It's been raining/cloudly/dark a lot.

    AFAIK my laptop's actually been running cooler. I've got an HP 8710w. The power management options did need to be tweaked, because it was throttling my CPU and GPU when plugged in, even on high performance mode. I suppose this is something that'll get fixed in the retail versions.

    It gets to 25-30C at my country in summer.
    But my laptop Fujitsu Amilo Li 2735 keeps at about 45C while browsing, listening to music. When gaming about 55C max.

    Mine idles at 60 degrees and 70 degress underload.

    At idle my Win 7 RC x86 (on the laptop one from my sig) runs as follows:

    CPU: 28ºC/ 82F
    HDD1: 40ºC/ 104F
    HDD2: 35ºC/ 95F
    GPU: 45ºC/ 113F

    and not much hotter if watching video, surfing the net etc.

    I just got an idea. Maybe it's running hot, because W7 is HOT! ;)
    I mean, it has huge success even before it's released. When it gets released it's gonna be the hottest OS on the market. :D

    This is really off topic and doesnt benefit the OP in anyway. Also I think that theres a program making your computer run hot or the inside could be collecting dust.
