I'm not sure if this is a vista issue or it's the laptop... Last night when I was done working with the laptop (asus m50vm) I just closed the lid as usual, the laptop goes into hibernation mode. When I opened the lid this morning and woke up the computer the screen was just plain dark gray, its like not turned off but just doesnt display anything. I use fn+f7 and the screen turns completely off, and turns back on displaying nothing. I restarted windows in safe mode and it works, im on it right now, but in normal mode it doesnt show anything passed the microsoft flash. Any ideas??

well sometimes it happens that the screens don“t wake up. i have seen this with xp , vista, and even at a friends macbook.
while the screen of my friends macbook wakes up after changing the brightness level, the windows machines seem not to wake up from this sleep. the only thing you can do is switching the notebook off and restart. -
I did that, it's still blank in normal windows mode. It's like it's stuck in sleep mode screen forever or something. Iv turned the screen on/off but still nothing..

You can try disabling hibernation and/or deleting C:\hiberfil.sys

I googled the problem and it seems its fixed with a restart or shutdown for many people, but it's not working for me. When i restart I still get a blank screen... really need help on this, ill try a system restore.
EDIT: system restore fixed it -
have same issue on sony sz periodically
i hibernate then turn it back on to fix
some ppl saying power off then battery remove then 60sec press button for power on
dunno if it can help -
PS only happens on battery power, not on AC

You can disable hibernate functions in Normal ou Safe Mode by typing...
powercfg hibernate off
...as Administrator in a prompt command window.
This will overwrite all others power configurations in Vista, even if you setup the timers, lid behavior, etc...
To get hibernate functions back, type...
powercfg hibernate on
