Vista 64 runs great on my home pc. Been running 32bit version with sp1rc on my laptop. I am still thinking that fps and games do not run as good on my laptop as they did with xp. So I am contemplating on going back to xp with the new sp3. Anyone make that switch, or do games pretty much run fine on your laptop with vista?
-
I dual-booted, b/c I was hesitant to switch over to vista fully, especially since I opted to install the 64-bit version. I've only booted XP a few times since installing Vista. However, if I did have any good games to play, I would install them and run them in XP, just to eek out that last bit of performance

I'm using Vista, and am happy with it, especially since SP1 RC1
-
I've played Unreal Tournament 2004, Far Cry and F.E.A.R, on fullestest settings on my notebook with Vista, everything is great! And this is without SP1 RC1.

I've been loving vista 64 on my vostro 1500. The only thing I do not like about it is all software components such as movie maker, windows calender, and other things that I will never use and wish to remove but are considered part of the OS. When SP1 is released I'll just slipstream and use vlite to make a new installation disk without all the useless programs that I dont use.
-
Vista 64 here too.
I did dual boot too but it was mainly in case of backup if I ever screw up my current OS installation -
Vista's fine with me
-
I installed vista on my computer and Windows installer was messed up. I couldnt install or uninstall anything. Was unable to fix it.

I prefer vista by a long shot, nothing wrong with XP except no DX10 but I just prefer the interface and options of Vista, and there are not alow of Vista only games out there.
-
i wasted hours upon hours trying to make my previous xp installation run and look like a osx/vista hybrid
i put it this way tho, its not worth going from a already vista capable pc down to a xp install, but if you can get xp before actually getting the computer, get it, vista isnt worth having yet. im not sure if im going to downgrade my pc or not, i cant dual boot with my vista recovery disc and all my drivers for my pc arent available yet -
That's what you call a corrupted install, it arrives pretty often, you just re-install and everything go fine. -
I'm on the fence right now, I run both. I prefer vista for normal everyday tasks, but for gaming/compatibility, I still run XP.
Really would prefer to go one or the other, but that's not really an option right now. -
I enjoy running Vista 64 bit. Had very few issues with any programs (except Yahoo! Music Unlimited... already paid for next year but wont work now even in compatibility mode but oh well) no issues with anything else. runs pretty smooth and fast and i hear the new service pack for it is very good a improving overall speed and reliability for the OS. I currently run with the SP1 RC1. I like it much better then XP so far.

Being a Linux and XP user, I initially disliked Vista; and with good reason. None of my games worked and Aero was a stuttering mess.
Assuming you have a capable machine, the main problems that are plaguing Vista at the moment (and giving users a hard time) are poorly written drivers. For example, the stock driver that came with my laptop couldn't run any of my games above 15fps (AoE3, HL2, other Source games, EE2), but when I installed a driver from laptopvideo2go, I have encountered zero major technical issues with the OS.
But, its not like everybody else is having the same experiences that I am. -
Vista is ok with me though I do need to run XP in a vm since our work vpn software won't run in vista.
-
My laptop came with Vista and I have enjoyed using it so far. XP just feels different and less exciting to use compared to Vista, at least in my opinion. Since SP1 RC1, Vista has been even more responsive, which is always good.

Vista has been great for me!

I prefer Vista, however I wish that I had better drivers for some things on my W3j. Vista feels nice, and it runs well, and has some nice features that I didn't have in XP Pro, such as the handwriting recognition.
-
Yep, I'll say it again for this thread. Yep Vista for me.
-
Vista BABY!

I've been using it for 9 months now with no major complaints. Its also been an awful lot more stable than XP ever was for me.

Running Vista on my laptop, XP on my desktop...
I am an admin with over 100 computer on our network, 20+ of which are Vista.
I like Vista better in general.
Not that I don't have some annoyances with Vista, but overall it has its benefits. -
Hey kernal, would you happen to know how to make a wireless sharing network with vista + xp home ?
The vista computer can see XP but it just keep saying that I don't have admin rights -
yeah.. vista is ok over here with me
the only thing is that i need alittle more RAM cuz im getting my laptop filled with games and all that -
You have to enable them to make sharing work and thus require admin level priviledges to get Vista to see everything correctly (likely what your error is)AND you have to have appropriate rights on the XP machine to read the files of course. -
Clean install of Windows XP here, running smooth as silk.

Currently running Vista Business on a 3-4 yr. old notebook and other than a minor issue with the wireless card, it's been great so far. Love the sidebar gadgets, aero, decent power management and seamless cd burning.
-
I prefer XP. It runs faster.
-
My notebook came with XP MCE2005 and after 7months I took that off and installed vista. After experiencing both I prefer vista on my notebook.
-
I prefer Vista.
-
I prefer Vista also.
-
XP for me
-
Windows Vista Ultimate and never look back
-
nice machine -
Both are about the same for me, but I use vista. Mainly cuz is nice to look at lol
-
Right now i am using Vista Business and happy with it. I can play bf2, gears of wars and rainbow six vegas without any problem.
-
My M1210 came with Vista, and I disliked it and put XP Pro back. Now I am seeing newer machines with Vista that actually run faster than XP, I am now using Vista on my M1210.
On my desktop, I am running dual-boot, XP is my work OS and Vista is my gaming OS (8800GT + DX10). My preference is still towards Vista after all the tweaks, Vista tends to be slow to start because of all the services, however, once SuperFetch kicks in, everything becomes a lot faster.
XP SP3 was out on the 18th, some tests were done to prove that it is 10-15% faster than SP2. -
Windows XP works fine for me.
-
I had a lot of issues with Vista at first, but I think most of that was due just to getting used to a new OS. As of now, I'm very happy with Vista.

Vista definitely. Differences in gaming performance is negligible.
I won't go back to XP even if you you pay me. -
I have Vista Ultimate on my laptop. I would prefer XP Pro, but I am not going to bother buying the disk...so I guess I will just stick with Vista.
Tim -
I have both, but use Vista much more often
-
i have both, but if i have to keep one it will be xp
i'm a power user, and in xp everything works good out of the box, don't need most of the fancyness of vista, and every program and game i use gets good speed and functionality
deleted the vista the first weekend that came with the laptop and reinstalled a dual boot xp and vista (i like to keep two OSes for troubleshooting and other things)
