    Hi everyone,

I am from the UK. I have a Gateway 3525GB Laptop, that will not boot up. Basicall, it goes to start up and brings up the blcak screen with the optios 1)safe mode 2)safe mode with network 3)safe mode w/configuration 4)last known good config and 5)windows normally.

Now i have tried all of those but to no avail  , and i really want to get it cback to the way it was before. I have alr=eady downloaded ubuntu liveCD and ran that off the CD through BIOS to retrieve some very important files. They are now safely on my external HDD.

I do not have any CD's with my laptop whatsoever, none came with the machine at all. I have had it for around 3 years now, and need some help as to what i can do really.

Any takers? Help will be much appreciated!!

    Thanks Guys/Gals

Umm without a Windows OS disk there isn't much you can really do afaik.

Few options I can think of -

    1. buy a Windows OS disk from ebay without the licence (assuming you have the licence sticker on your notebook still, or have the code written down somewhere - you'll need that if you do a full re-install) and run the repair wizard.

    2. Take it to a local repair shop if you have one.

    3. Find someone who has a Windows OS disk you can borrow and beg them to let you borrow it.

    4. Install Ubuntu from the liveCD and use that as your OS (not sure if you can install from the liveCD though)

    5. Sell the machine to me as spare parts, I'll fix it and then re-sell it back to you :D

Yes you can. Just using the icon on the desktop, iirc.

See if some of the important parameters have changed in the BIOS, press del or F12 whatever brings you to the BIOS window and check there.

Contact Gateway support and order a new set of system recovery CDs for your system - shouldn't cost you more than about US$25 to US$50.

that is probably your best bet.........

I'm assuming you're running XP?? Got any friends w/ a disk that you can use to repair/reinstall? And just use the key off the bottom of the laptop if you can still read it. It is probably worn off by now, unless you applied a strip of packing tape over it, like I usually do..........

When did this problem happen? Was it working fine, you rebooted and then it started? Did you install anything or modify any settings before your reboot?
