what make/model is your laptop? the video is as important as the cpu/ram. the minimum spec for the video card has to include DX9 HARDWARE support.

Manually installing DX9/10 will do NOTHING for your machine if the gpu is not capable of delivering the DX9/10 hardware requirements.

more ram may or may not help depending on the specs of the video card.

Upgrade the ram, 1GB is pretty low for a newer OS.

Actually 512MB is just ok with Win7. It will use much less resources on a machine with less memory.

I tested this with my 5101: changed between 512MB, 1GB and 2GB chips. On 512MB most notable difference was that Aero got turned off, not enough ram for the graphics adapter (128MB needed for Aero but only 64MB available with 512MB ram).

General use experience was as snappy as with 2GB installed. Obviously running as many programs as with 2GB is not possible.

Specs are fine with W7. My Toshiba NB200 only has 1.66Ghz CPU :D

Check to make sure that your OS is up to date, online media needs plugins to run smoothly (Flash, Codec ..). Make sure that these items are up to date as well.

    cheers ...
