Is it normal for your windows folder in vista to be 8.2GB in size? Because my free space left drops every day for no reason whatsoever - I've lost space at times from uninstalling programs (btw, how does that happen?) and I'm wondering how I can slow down this freefall in available space...

My windows folder is only 4.63GB, and that's a weird problem. I too winder how un-installing something can take away space. =\

Is System Restore enabled? See if you can't lower the amount of space that Windows is using for restore points, as it could be eating up more and more space in backup restore points every time you make a change.

Yup, nothing to worry about. Its just the system restores and the shadow copy backing up stuff on your HDD(like old programs). You can clean it up if you want a let it rebuild but unless you really are in need of the extra HDD space, I would leave it as is.

BTW, my Windows folder is ~8GB as well.

I'm assuming all of you are running Vista?

I'm on XP and my Windows folder is at 2.5GB... and yes, I have system restore enabled.

Is Vista really normally that huge?

I've seen Windows XP installations that swell up to 20GB or so, it all depends on how you manage your computer. My Windows files on Vista takes up around 8.75GB - this is smaller than what XP on my desktop back home consumes.

I very rarely have Windows issues (my one Windows machine is using XP), and always turn off System Restore. I understand that it can be of great value when an problem arises, but I've found that keeping Windows and Security apps up-to-date, using Firefox and being careful about where I surf the Net, and regular "tune ups" (read: I like to use CCleaner and RegSeeker) help keep nasty issues at bay - not to mention avoidance of losing Gigs of hdd space.
