One highly rated firewall is Comodo firewall. It's free, but its in development for Vista. Personally, I am waiting for this one-it has many good reviews.

Hate to say this but that is just a bad move. UAC is actually a good thing. Its worse on OS X and Linux where you have to actually put a password in everytime. Also UAC is more of a problem on a fresh install of your OS and apps as you do alot of tweaking then. Later when you are just using your computer you hardly notice.

Also there are lots of tweaks out there that lesson the anoying part of UAC but keep the security of it. http://www.tweak-uac.com/what-is-tweak-uac/

I find that the outbound firewall detection of PCTools FireWall Plus more than makes up for the problems UAC causes, which, by the way, are not limited to annoyances, but cause run time problems as well. UAC is OFF on my machine.

I shut the damn thing off too.

I can see why it's there, and one could argue that in a biz environment with an IT dept it's a good thing. But it's not for me - just a pain in the azz. Thank god M$ allows us to shut the darn thing off.
