ok so my SL400 will be arriving soon (Vista Basic), however I want to be ready for it!
1. My first question is, does the SL400 have a feature where you can press a button (ex. F11) on bootup then you can recover the laptop to factory default?
2. If so, then can I download windows XP, and when I want to go back to vista just do the recovery?
I hope my questions are precise and clear![]()

XP downgrade rights only come with Vista Business.
And it should have a recovery partition - possibly with the ability to burn your own recovery discs. -
Well, lets say that I've gotten a hold of Win XP Pro SP2
, would I be able to install it and then whenever I want to go back to Vista Basic using the recovery method (ex. F11 on bootup)
-
If you have a valid license for XP you could instal it.
I'm not sure about the recovery partition - it would possibly stay, but I wouldn't guarantee it.
You can most likely burn recovery discs from Windows Vista. -
Ok, I just called Lenovo support and the guy told me that if you install a different OS (ex.XP) then your recovery partition is changed to XP, so therefore if I want to still have Vista Basic available, I need to burn it as recovery discs. Thanks DetlevCM for responding to my question

You're welcome - but:
Your recovery partition will not change to a different OS when you instal a new OS.
You'd get an XP recovery partition if you buy a computer with XP though. -
oh, so the Lenovo technical support was wrong, well either way just to be safe, I'll burn vista to recovery, btw does the recovery partition automatically get deleted once you burn the CDs ?
-
It should stay.
At least on my Vaio it did.
In theory unless you delete it during an XP installation it will stay too - but better burn the discs. -
yes I will
Lenovo SL400 recovery?
