F.lux: software to make your life better

It basically adjusts your monitor's colors to match daytime or nighttime. Your computer monitor puts out a blue light comparable to the sun all day long. When you're using your computer at night, this stops you from feeling sleepy. I've used it for a couple of days now and it really works. Normally by this time, I would be wide awake. Right now I'm awake to do some homework, but feeling sleepy as hell even though I took an hour nap today. It puts less strain on your eyes.

The program makes your monitor look "sepia" is the best way I would describe it. If the transition is too fast for you, you can change it so that it transitions at a slower rate.

I won't ever go back to the regular settings at night unless I'm doing some color-sensitive work or want to stay awake. try it for yourself for a couple of days and thank me later.

-----And i am using it for my M11x-----

Anyone else tried this so they can post feedback to vouch for this?

It really helps me lower eye strain when looking at the computer.

I can't think of anything I'd rather use less. I'm fairly obsessed with displays being calibrated for 6500 K/2.2 gamma.

I have had it on my main laptop for a couple of years. I do find it easy on my eyes. Sometimes it seems strange when you change from a computer that isn't running it to one that does. But, overall I find it useful and not intrusive at all.

I didn't think most laptop LCD screens could change color temperature?

For some reason, I can't explain why, But my FPS drops by a good 10-13 when using it. :( So I dropped it.

Edit: R1, WoW and a variety of steam games.

    WoW, Counter Strike, and TF2.

For instance: WoW ran at about 12-15fps while in the city and then I turned it off and it jumped to 33

I'm trying it since I have insomnia issues. It seems to lower the temperature of the upper portion of the screen more than the lower. Is this by design?

I had this installed for awhile but if I was running a game it would literally make it seize up. I wouldn't really recommend it.

I'm just going to assume you're a little groggy, but the whole point of displays is that the pixels can be set to any color you want. ;)

but color temperature is something set by the display, a setting on your screen independent of anything on your PC
I can't imagine doing it through the video card would be worthwhile in terms of performance

Modifying the displayed image using settings on the monitor is inferior to modifying the displayed image in software. The monitor can process the signal being output by the video card, or the video card can just display it the way you want it displayed in the first place. The only setting that any monitor can do that isn't doable on the videocard side of things is the brightness of the backlighting. Also, on a laptop, all these settings are only available through software and not on the monitor itself anyway.
