F.lux: software to make your life better
It basically adjusts your monitor's colors to match daytime or nighttime. Your computer monitor puts out a blue light comparable to the sun all day long. When you're using your computer at night, this stops you from feeling sleepy. I've used it for a couple of days now and it really works. Normally by this time, I would be wide awake. Right now I'm awake to do some homework, but feeling sleepy as hell even though I took an hour nap today. It puts less strain on your eyes.
The program makes your monitor look "sepia" is the best way I would describe it. If the transition is too fast for you, you can change it so that it transitions at a slower rate.
I won't ever go back to the regular settings at night unless I'm doing some color-sensitive work or want to stay awake. try it for yourself for a couple of days and thank me later.
-----And i am using it for my M11x-----

anyone else vouch for this? Would be helpful for me because of school but don't wanna play with messy stuff
installed gonna try it out and well I suppose let others know how it works for me -
Anyone else tried this so they can post feedback to vouch for this?
It really helps me lower eye strain when looking at the computer. -
I can't think of anything I'd rather use less. I'm fairly obsessed with displays being calibrated for 6500 K/2.2 gamma.
-
I have had it on my main laptop for a couple of years. I do find it easy on my eyes. Sometimes it seems strange when you change from a computer that isn't running it to one that does. But, overall I find it useful and not intrusive at all.

I didn't think most laptop LCD screens could change color temperature?
-
For some reason, I can't explain why, But my FPS drops by a good 10-13 when using it.
So I dropped it.
Edit: R1, WoW and a variety of steam games. -
What game? -
For instance: WoW ran at about 12-15fps while in the city and then I turned it off and it jumped to 33 -
I'm trying it since I have insomnia issues. It seems to lower the temperature of the upper portion of the screen more than the lower. Is this by design?
-
I had this installed for awhile but if I was running a game it would literally make it seize up. I wouldn't really recommend it.
-
Hm i have the problem where half the screen is more dimmed than the other. Is this the same for everyone?
-

-
I do not see an fps drop when playing games such as team fortress 2 and counter strike source..
-
I can't imagine doing it through the video card would be worthwhile in terms of performance -
