Something that has been annoying me since upgrading to Windows 7 RC is the lack of touchpad scrolling. Tap-to-click works fine, so I haven't been compelled to find/install some Dell or Sony driver. Back with the beta I installed the latest version of the Alps driver I could find, which happened to be from Dell. I was rather displeased with the extra resident processes, excessive and pointless disk IO, and it using up to 5% CPU for simply moving the cursor. My primary usage of Windows is note-taking in class off of battery, so this isn't really acceptable for the small amount of benefit (scrolling). (Before someone cries "that's insignificant", stuff like that kills battery life by waking the CPU from C3/4 dozens of times a second.)

So, now that the background information is out of the way, is there any alternate touchpad software available? Not an alternative driver (Windows 7 recognizes it just fine), but an alternative helper application. Googling the matter reveals that demand for such a program exists, but showed no indications that anyone had actually written any.

HP provides the Synaptics TouchPad (and mouse) V6.5 on PS/2 Port on its dv5t (and other) laptops, and it's fabulous! I think it must have every possible customization known to man, and then some!

I have to agree on this one. It works great and it's so smooth ain't it?
You should try it out izomiac.
