On my crappy old Windows 2000 laptop, which has no anti-virus program/firewall installed whatsoever, I have Limewire Pro set to UPnP, and have not port-forwarded my router for it. It works perfectly.

On my brand new laptop (specs in my sig), I have port-forwarded Limewire Pro itself, my router, McAfee's firewall, and have granted it full access rights on my network both on McAfee's and Window's firewall (which is currently off, by the way). And yet, Limewire refuses to work on this laptop, and will actually drop my internet connection altogether whenever it's open.

Any solutions? I really like Limewire, because on my old computer, I regularly get download transder speeds of 100kB/s+ whereas on my new computer, I am lucky to get 20kB/s out of crappy torrent programs such as BitTorrent and Azureus, even though they are fully port-forwarded themselves. I would dearly love to get Limewire working on my new laptop, but it just doesn't seem to be Vista compatable.

    :(

I've turned off my routers firewall, McAfee's firewall AND Windows firewall, and STILL Limewire won't work. Bah! I'm officially putting it down to Vista incompatability, because Azureus is working fine for me right now, even though it is not as fast as I would like it to be.... :(

Frostwire behaves in exactly the same way. I wouldn't mind so much if a) torrent programs gave me the same transfer speeds as Limewire on a consistent basis and b) they have built-in search and database like Limewire does. :(

You get in a good private torrent site and that aint an issue. if you really need your hand held to the point that you can seach for Torrents on the readily availale search sites, then you can always use BitComet, which has this built in.

But honestly, Limewire and Torrent is like night and day. I am actualy surprised that anyone is stil using Limewire at all, frankly.
