Ok guys so long story short I have a member of my family that hasn't really been in school since the 4th grade, now should be a junior in high school but obviously is not. He is enrolled in some online GED type thing and I need a way to make it so he only has internet access at certain times, and during those times he can only get to this school site. Any ideas? Thanks for any and all help.

There is this function on Linksys routers. You can setup access times and block websites that are distracting.

If you have Vista-set him up as a standard user and use vista's built parental controls.

You should be able to create a limited user account that does not have permission to alter the settings on the internet explorer; then, from your own account (or any account with administrator's privileges), set up the internet options for this person's user account by first restricting every site, and then adding the school site to the "Trusted Sites" section. That should basically have the effect of prohibiting that user account from connecting to any website on the internet other than the school website.

To set that up, with a browser window open, go to the "Tools" menu, then click on the "Internet options..." item, from there go to the "Security" tab on the dialog box that pops up, left-click on the "Restricted Sites" icon - it has a red circle with a line through it, and then click on the "Sites" button that appears - then enter "*" (without the quote marks) and click the "Add..." button. That should have the effect of blocking access to every single website under every available protocol (i.e., access to http:// sites, https:// sites, ftp:// sites, etc...). Next, go to the "Trusted Sites" icon (it should be a green tick-mark), left-click on that, then click on the "Sites" button and enter the school's website and click the "Add" button. For example, if the school's primary website was http://www.myschool.edu/ you would want to type "*.myschool.edu/*" into the form line and add that - by using a wildcard structure like that, you should make it possible to access internal or restricted sites that a lot of schools have, such as https://mail.myschool.edu/ or http://GED.myschool.edu/.

If all of that doesn't work, use a bat! lol. But, in all seriousness, try what Shyster suggested. :)

If you have Vista, filter by using parental controls. That way they can't get around your blocking by using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome
