Hello everyone. I'm wondering if someone can help me out with the "Line In" plug on my laptop. I'm running Vista home premium. The line in works fine, except for one thing. I cannot hear whatever I'm piping into the jack. I can record what I'm feeding in, but I cannot hear it in real time. I've tried playing around with the audio settings, but nothing has worked. I find this quite strange. I would appreciate any advice from someone who knows what I'm talking about. Thanks in advance!

    What settings have you tried?

What program are you using to record with? Audacity is a free (and quite powerful) recording and editing app. It has features, built in, that allow you to monitor what you are recording as you record.

I have tried muting certain things, setting different levels and different enhancements. I have no problem recording something and playing it back after the recording has been stopped, but I can't hear what I'm recording in real time. I am in fact using Audacity. Thanks for the suggestion anyway!

If the first suggestion below doesn't work, then the trick is the "Software playthrough" setting.

You can always enable "monitoring" or some option like that in audacity so audacity will route the audio in signal back through the audio out plug.

Which one of the two methods I posted worked for you?
