I'm in the process of installing Ubuntu. While I'm at it, I'll also be moving all my personal files (such as music, documents, pictures, videos, etc.) to a separate partition. I'll use that partition to store stuff for both Ubuntu and Vista.
My question is, is there a way to link my user folder to another folder on a different partition? For example, say I'm in Vista and I click on the folder with my user name "jtan189". Can I make it navigate to my other partition with my personal files? Or perhaps is there a way to make Vista store the entire User directory on the other partition and automatically use that?

Try this

Pretty easy guide to re-root your documents. -
Thanks. Your guide seems to concerned with only the "Documents" folder though. I want to switch the entire User folder.
After experimenting a bit, I figured out that I can right click any folder within my "user" folder, click properties, switch to the location tab, and switch that to the external partition. I suppose I could just do this separately for each subfolder. But is there any way to switch the entire parent "User" folder location?
Also, I've read about cases where switching the location of such folders causes problems with programs. Is this a smart decision, or not? -
Yes , I heard switching locations of users directories would creates issues so i would suggest not doing so ...
but you could move videos , picture and docs out of there safely -
Thanks. I guess I'll just move the sub-directories of my main user directory.
