I just wanted to share some information I found searching on the web.

I can't believe it's been out awhile and haven't heard anything about it just stumbled across a link to it. Anyway, it's a digital pen that records your notes/handwriting as well as recording voice.
The cool thing about it is when you are taking notes (with recording on) you can go back to any particular area of text and double tab the pen and hear that part of the lecture. The pen uses special paper with micro dots to see where you are writing but doesn't cost that much more, about 5 buck for 100 sheet notebook (200 pages using the front and back)
I picked up one from Target. Amazon and other retailers also have it. So far it's a neat little gadget and can't wait to use it when I start taking night classes. Just thought I would pass along some info seeing alot of people are using their notebook for classes.

that is the coolest idea i've seen using optical technology in such a small space.... i have a feeling those will be popping up in college classrooms everywhere....
and the fact that it doen't try to do any OCR is it's best feature IMO,, i like the way it can record lectures and then identify what was being spoken at the time you made certain notes,,, that should be very useful for many students...
this device would have made my college life much easier. the cost is a bit much, but what a SOUND investment in one's future...
now we will see a spike in crime rates as people get jacked for their LIVESCRIBE ink pens... what will the older generations think! -
I saw this at Target. Had a video and all. Didn't think much of it. Just another distraction in class, imo.

bigozone,
I feel exactly the same way you do. In fact I'm 34 and going back to college, so I'm going to need every bit of help I can get.The software is suppose to allow for OCR but like you said you lose the function of recordered audio and searching though notes.
As far as price, I think you get an OK value. (everthing can always be cheaper) I'm hoping it will allow me to take better notes because I don't have to worry about missing something and can contribute towards class discussions. If I fail to write something down I can always go back and get the info. People are willing to spend that on a better video card or brand name laptop. I feel if I use it at least I'm investing the money in myself. (Shrugs shoulders)
McGrady,
I don't understand it as being a distraction. You could say that about a person doodling with a sheet of paper and pencil. If studying comes easy to you by listening in class and able to get good marks more power to you. (smilie face thumb up) -
The noises it makes, and talking from the pen.

The noise is adjustable, you can even turn the "clicking noise" off. I agree the playback should be done on your own time. You can attach ear buds to the top of the pen for private listening though.
