I've previously backed up my OS to discs before I had an external HD. Now that I do, last night I attempted to run a backup of my Local Disk (C: ) but it was unsuccessful and stopped half way through the cycle. Now it suddenly shows in red? Any ideas what's going on here?

It's red because you have less then 10% of free space. This may also been the reason why your backup stopped. Check the event log for details.

Alright then. I haven't needed to use external drives until now. As for the log, there was nothing significant. It just said the backup could not be completed?

Hmm, that's a bit lame. You did check the Backup log itself, in Applications and Services Logs->Microsoft->Windows->Backup, plus the System log for possible out of disk space errors?

You're right, the information is copious; and mostly beyond my level of understanding. In any event, the backup was completed.
