I installed the .NET framework so I could run CHC and since then, it shows the Windows 2000 style login and shutdown (as opposed to the Windows XP style with the icons and such)

I hate having to go through the username and password dialogue box when windows starts up. Isn't there some way to switch it back to the XP style?

Let me know if anybody has ideas.

I assume you're referring to the Welcome Screen. Click Control Panel --> User Accounts --> Change the way users log on and off --> Use welcome screen

    That should fix it.

It actually shouldn't do that unless you're current bootup method is setup this way. But you can try a couple things to see if it'll fix it.

    1. Try upgrading .NET (I know there's a few upgrades for it), it might fix this problem.

    2. Goto Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Click "Change the way user logs on or off" -> Add a check to the "Use Welcome Screen" box

This should get it back to the original XP style logon.

    Hope it works!

Ah, I've figured out what the problem is.

It's interesting because the first thing I did when I noticed things were awry was go and look at that setting. I noticed that the "Use Welcome Screen" setting was checked so I unchecked it (thinking that the "welcome screen" was where it was asking me to log in). It never occured to me to re-check it since it was checked while I was noticing the problem in the first place. If that makes sense...
