Pros: I do like media center and the new interface on media center is nice but in the long run it still has less features then Beyond TV & Beyond Media. Plus Media Center copy guards all it records. It prevents you from watching the recording on any other machine even on my local home network. I like to watch movies on my laptop outside but cannot do that with Media Center.Another instance of Microsoft playing big brother and ignoring there consumers needs.

Cons: After installing this OS my machine ran slower. The new Aero graphics were OK but compared to openSuse running XGL Vistas graphics seemed lame. Funny thing is... Vistas Aero interface does not like my ATI 256mb video card but I dual boot my free openSuse Linux on the same machine and it used this card no problem. What makes it even worse for Microsoft is that Linux running XGL is a true 3d enviorment and has 20 times more graphics features. It seems Microsoft is trying to force users to buy new hardware and overpay for there crummy OS

Other Thoughts: I have been a big Microsoft fan for a long time and have worked in the IT field for 7 years now, mainly with MS products. After creating my current system as a dual boot (Vista & openSuse) I hardly go into Vista as it is time to move on from Microsoft. Poor security and a high price tag have turned me off. Mix that in with the fact that the OS is locked down and customers are harassed if they change to much hardware and have to keep Microsoft up to date on what they do on there own systems. What a shame! What has 3d graphics, comes with an office suite, multiple desktops, every piece of software needed for free and is stable and secure? Not this operating system! Vista is a mess. Stay away if you want a good OS get openSuse for free and be amazed by it's unlimited features which are all free! Maybe if enough people move on Microsoft will respect there customers again.

I'm sorry, but mispelling words, talking in run on sentences like a kid, and being an idiot makes me really think your a developer.

I am gonna edit this. Reading newegg Vista 'reviews' is like getting shot. They all suck, good or bad.

May as well call newegg reviews, the yahoo forums of reviews.

Don't throw stones, bud ;) Besides, I know a lot of developers. They may know the C grammar inside and out, but many couldn't string together a coherent sentence in an email if their life depended on it.

That's exactly what I spotted right off the bat. For the most part, that guy's review was grammatically very good. To bash the real evidential points he made by citing bad grammar and misspellings, especially when you make such mistakes yourself, really just discredits your post and not his review, in my opinion.

If you don't like what the guy had to say, then debate his review point-for-point. Don't just attempt to discredit it with the totally irrelevant "you made a spelling mistake" argument.

Bah. I've seen this happen time in and time out. People calling themselves developers so that they can bash something. It happens for every bit of software, and it always pisses me off.

You can literally go on amazon and find:

    'A kids review:

LOL I'm a devlper this sofwar sucks lol'

    I've seen it before.

BTW, look at this run on sentence:

"I do like media center and the new interface on media center is nice but in the long run it still has less features then Beyond TV & Beyond Media"

They teach you commas in 5th grade english.

BTW, the line about not being able to get a 256 meg ati card to work is bunk too, my 128 meg 9600 pro runs aero glass PERFECTLY.

Just as interesting to find this on another page:

"Pros: It has some pretty neat graphics and is very secure.

Cons: It asks permission for every little thing. that gets really anoying. It was the worst procuct that Microsoft has ever come out with. Not much is compatible with it yet and it takes a lot of system resorces. I don't think it's worth the money.

Other Thoughts: Linux suse will be much better for everybody to start using. It's got the better features of vista with out the necessity of high end equipment and it's much cheaper and more reliable. It's a free download. try it, and you'll love it."

    Dual accounts much?

I HATE people who do this kind of garbage, even on software that I honestly hate. It honestly should be banned, as it's trolling.

Just to be fair, here is an example from the mac world:

"This is an example of a large company pertpetrating fraud on the people who buy its products.
I bought my son an iPod for Christmas. Unfortunately he could not use it to download from itunes on his 4 yr old Mac Powerbook computer. He needed to buy the newer (tiger) operating system. So another [...] to buy this operating system. He has been unable to install it on his Powerbook. Both of us have spent over 4 hours on the phone with Mac tech support(hah!) and have found no solution. Finally they told us to bring it in to an Applestore (three hour drive away) which we did, only to be told that it would cost [...] for them to even look at it.
I hope no one else has to suffer like we have just because you bought an iPod."

First of all, Ipods are compatible with a range of Apple OS's. Secondly, why the hell does the OS suck if it doesn't install on your system? Sounds like a good way to make up something and bash the system.

And can someone change the thread name to what I've changed it to?

I know these are very vague arguments, they aren't flat out 'LOL the product sucks it should be thrown away!', but those kinds of things get erased now, and people hafta be careful when they troll.

I may be making too much of a deal out of it, but how nice is it really to go to a site to buy something and see a million:

"LOL, my fake son went to buy teh shopping cart and got teh electrical discharge and now i'm suing for teh 5 million boxes of kellogs smacks!'

I think Newegg is great for reviews, just because of how many people actually do them on that site. You just have to search out the crappy ones. When I read reviews I look for recurring flaws that could be problems with the product. For instance: several reviews say that an external drive bay has semi-par cooling and is a tight fit for most drives. I might stay away from that enclosure and buy one with non-repeating flaws in reviews.

Without these reviews, I may never find out about the nit-picky problems.

Have you got a MAC? Have you tried this? I ask because I actually have exactly thhe same issue this guy has with my Fiance's IPOD/MAC, it's not actually the IPOD (not sure how technical this guy is) it's ITunes, basically she is stuck at using an old version of ITunes because of the way MAC OS's seem to work, unless she upgrades the OS (at fairly vast expense) she can't download the latest version of ITunes, and without the latest version of ITunes, she can't download songs, and without downloading songs to ITunes, you lose quite a bit of functionality of an IPOD.

Thank god for WINAMP and my XP Systems, that's all I'll say.

Oh, and if you REALLY think that developers write good, not run on, sentences, and have good spelling, I'd like to know what company you work for, because 99% of developers I meet have the worst english skills known to man. Just because comma's are taught in 5th grade doesn't mean people have to use them!

I fail to see how this thread contributes to the software thread at all. Discussing reviews and review semantics of software should be in Off-Topic.
