After all these years I've finally bit the bullet and bought some external HDD's.
Currently I have files spread across 2 laptops, 1 desktop, 5 SD cards and 1 USB drive and They're out of space now. So I figured I should try and consolidate into one central storage medium (not going the optical disc route, don't fancy having hundreds of discs on hand).
I picked up three WD My Passport 500GB's with the intention to use Drive #1 as main backup and drives #2 and #3 as redundant backup. After testing out WD's included SmartWare, I'm a bit... Disappointed. SmartWare seems to be aimed at whole system/image backups rather than individual files.
I'm looking for something that can automatically detect new/changed files on drive #1 and then make carbon copies on #2 and #3. Am I asking for too much or should I just stick with the old Copy/Paste method?
If you weren't able to tell. I am paranoid about drive failure - hence the three drives I bought, the main reason why I haven't acquired an external HDD til now was because of the online reports about abrupt failure and having known some people that used externals for storage and had the drives suddenly crap out.
So NBR forumers... Can ya help me out?![]()

If you want that much data redundancy, you might want to look into a RAID setup as well (mirror method, not striping).
Looking for File backup/sync software.
