I'm not a student or work in academia, just want to purchase a reasonably priced copy of MS Office 2007 Standard. I don't want to get into a bidding war on ebay.

Any suggestions? I don't want the Pro Version or the Ultimate version -- just the plain ole' Standard.

That is a good deal above.

If you don't want to get into any bidding wars, amazon is a good place to start.

Thanks but I am looking for STANDARD version, not the Student version. The standard version includes, Word, Powerpoint, Excel & OUTLOOK...

I don't see how it's better but it's definitely a really good alternative and you can't beat the price, not to mention it's 100% compatible with office. I've tried out O.O. 3.0 and i'm pretty impressed.

Can't get it for free ;) Welcome to Microsoft country, where they hook you so deep you can't use alternatives.

You've really got only a few choices: Learn to use O o_O and Thunderbird, get in a bidding war, find someone you know who'll sell their copy to you, or buy it new. There's a reason I don't use Windows if I can help it any more... I stopped being a pirate, and didn't want to pay through the nose for what should be standard software.

Open Office is not better. It is free...

Microsoft Office is a much better product, you get what you pay for (but you should find a good deal  ). Their original pricing is expensive, I agree.

Long story short, I was using Open Office while compiling an essay for the university I'm attending, the spell checker wasn't up to date and I didn't notice, I was almost going to submit it... So I recognized some mistakes, downloaded the Office trial, copy, paste, and the entire page was filled with typos and grammatical errors (red, green underline everywhere). I have not used any 3rd party word processing software, and will not in the future.
