Zonealarm doesn't work with Win7 64-bit so is there any other free firewall that works as good but it's also easy to use.

Try Comodo FW which is one of the best free firewall out there and it tops all firewall test even beating commercial versions

    http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/

Note : this is pretty comprehensive firewall so for the first few week you'll have lots of question asked at you ;)

here are few other alternatives : PC Tools

    All are 64bit compatible

It's just not very powerful, it lets everything go through compared to ZoneAlarm.

Try the Webroot Desktop Firewall if you're not happy with the default Windows Firewall. DO NOT use Comodo..its the most annoying program. Period.

Windows Firewall + Microsoft Security Essentials seems to be a popular route these days.

    Eset SmartSecurity

The developers write this in assembly - leading to the best performance (and stability) I've seen. Everything from ZoneAlarm to Norton to McAffee is slow, even on my beefy system.

This program just works - updating itself constantly and quietly (continuous updates if you're connected).

I've only had to disable the firewall once for an obscure application that had trouble with the filtering (it was the their fault, not ESET's).

    Anyways, I love it.

The Microsoft Essentials and Windows 7 firewall is my combination. If i wanted to get a paid antivirus, i would buy Nod32. As far as firewall, im not really worried because i dont have any sensitive information on my comp.

well, the guy WAS using zone alarm which is not any less annoying.

if he wants to answer questions about giving permission to programs... i dont see why not. its annoying but come'on, prob just once or twice a week, i mean, in the long run how often do you install programs anyways? not that often.

I'm a long-time ZoneAlarm user and since I started using Vista 64 and now Windows 7 64, I've been using Windows 7 Firewall Control (select the free version).

It's a front-end interface that uses the built-in Windows Firewall, but it gives you ZoneAlarm-like warnings (allow/deny/add rule) for outgoing traffic. Combined with the built-in Windows Firewall advanced settings, this should be everything you need.

Just like ZoneAlarm, you can permanently allow programs you use all the time, allow a program through just once or block pesky programs from phoning home for no good reason.

You can use Windows Firewall to manually block outgoing traffic without this Firewall Control addon, but you have to go in to the advanced settings, enable it and set up your rules. Firewall Control just makes it more user friendly.
