    WD and Seagate both have a tool available on their website, if your drive is from one of those manufacturers, hit the website The one for seagate is called seatools.

    HDTune is the best tool out there

    Also HWinfo32 has a good hardware benchmarking tool

    For me HD tune is crappiest soft ..it knackered my HDD once ..
