    Hi,

I was just wondering if there was any way that I could legally obtain an ISO of Windows XP. I've got lisence keys from loads of Windows computers that I can use.

    Thanks,

    Matt. I

About the only legal way to get an ISO of Windows is to make a backup of a legal disc you already own. If you can borrow someone else's CD for the same version (Home/Pro and noSP/SP1/Sp2), you should be able to install using one of your licenses. You may also be able to contact MS for replacement media.

The only "legal" place to download ISOs of MS OSs is from Microsoft themselves... MSDN...

Problem is the subscription is about $700 a year or so and are released under a development license.

    I don't think that's possible.

OK thanks guys! Do you know if I'd be able to do it from the recovery disk that came with my notebook?

Downloading Windows legally is possible, as I poseted above, via MSDN, but that has its own licensing issues. Proof is here http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/default.aspx where MS informs you that Vista has been added for download...

What it sounds like the thread starter wants though, using OEM keys other machines, isn't legal, regardless of where he obtains the ISO.

Recovery discs are sometimes keyed to a specific license key. If the "recovery disc" is actually JUST a Windows XP installation media, and it matches versions with one of your license keys, AND that license key is also OEM, that should actually work.

OK. Thanks guys. I don't want to go into the realms of illegality so I might go into a shop and buy a disk if I can find somewhere that still sells it. Thanks anyway!

It only cost 10 dollars to mail it to you. I just order mine. I needed a copy of VISTA 64BIT.
