Can somebody pls tell me a substitute for 'Notebook Hardware Control'(NHC) tool for 64 bit Vista ? I basically want to set my harddrive mode to Max performance in order to stop the periodic 'tocking' sound from hard drive. It worked by 32 bit Vista...Looking for a 64-bit solution.....I did try setting it thru BIOS but it didn't stop 'tocking' which NHC did....

just read my old thread...this has been discussed before

hdpram should do the job. NHC's development has been halted, and there won't be any new version.

As for powermizer, no idea really...as I don't disconnect my lappy from the outlet anyway.

RMClock is the best (and only?) alternative. It supports all the power saving features of Core2Duo processors and undervolting.

Only Problem is that you need a workaround on Vista 64, because it has no signed drivers yet. This solution was postet here a few weeks ago and works fine (for me too). Just use seach function with "RMClock".

Riemen, sorry to burst your bubble, but did you actually READ what the guys above are asking for. If yes, than frankly you didn't understand it very well, if not....please do us all a favor and don't post answers if you don't read the questions.

They're not fighting the CPU whine, but a HDD related tocking/clicking sound which is in no way whatsoever connected to your CPU.

And I will stop writing now, or I'd have to abuse the filter.

OK, I did just a quick look at what the starters problem was. I Was a bit in a hurry. Didn't even know that NHC had such a function, although I used it for a long time (maybe, because it seems not to support this on my old system).

It was a mistake, sorry, but no cause to become so abusive...
