I have a Dell Latitude e6400 connected via docking station to an external 24" monitor using a displayport to hdmi adapter cable. I have them running in extended desktop mode, with my primary monitor set to the external.

When Win7 goes into powersave mode (still running but turns off monitors, etc...), it forgets which windows are on each monitor, and pushes them all to the primary (external) monitor. If the screens go blank for a short amount of time (10-15 min), it doesn't happen, but if it's longer, then it does. I'm not sure if it's really 10-15 min, as it's hard to time something like this to really know for sure.

Does anyone have an idea on what's going on here, and how to fix it?

You could turn off powersave mode and stop the screens from going black...but I have no clue what's causing this. The first thing you should do is make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card, adapter, and/or docking station.

My other thought is that if your computer is entering standby mode, your usb ports are being shut off, which is interfering with your docking station.

You can correct this problem via the Device Manager (click Start, right-click My Computer, select Properties, click the Hardware tab, and choose Device Manager). Locate and double-click the driver entry for your docking station/monitor, click the Power Management tab, and put a check mark next to Allow This Device To Bring The Computer Out Of Standby.

If I think of anything else I'll let you know.
