I bought Vista Business Edition yesterday, installed it on my Thinkpad and registered it. I also downloaded all the drivers and backed up my IBM through rescue and recovery. I lost my DVD case along with the key. What can I do? Any chance that the backup would be enough or would I need the key to recover? Would I be given the key if I ask for support from microsoft since I registered the product? Or should I be carefull so that I never need to format?

If you entered the key into your system then you can retrieve it from there. I know in XP they had programs that can find out your product key so if they dont have a Vista version of that available then wait until they do. Call microsoft and see what they say or just wait for a ViewKey version for Vista to come out. Obviously formatting isnt advised right about now

Bob, if it does not work, you can get a new key issued from MS but you have to show them your receipt.

Bob, sorry for bumping this thread, but there is a much easier way to retrieve your key.
go to controlpanel> system and maintanence > welcome center > show more details and all the way down.
