I installed winRaR, but decided I don't want it now. I uninstalled it, but now every compressed folder that windows would have ordinarily opened, now has the classic white "File" icon, as in it doesn't know what to do with it. And when clicked, it says:

    "C:\File.zip

    Application Not Found".

How do I restore the original built in functionality?

Okay! So, go to Control Panel -- > Default Programs.

Next, click on "Associate a file type or protocol with a program." From there, I think it should be self explanatory. Just search for the *.zip extension, and have windows or Winzip take over. Winzip is another gorgeous alternative to WinRAR. I cannot stand WinRAR, but it's absolutely necessary for those people who use .rar files.

    Anyways, hope this helps!

There's no icon to choose "Windows Compressed Folders".

I could install rar again, or winzip, but I want to restore the original functionality.

You try going there - in the list of programs you can associate it with, is there "Windows" or "Reset to Default", or anything?

    See if this helps.

Go to Start -> Run and enter the following command.

    regsvr32 zipfldr.dll

"The module "Zipfldr.dll" was loaded but the entry point DllRegisterServer was not found.

Please make sure "Zipfldr.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file, then try again.

Not sure if this will work but I found a solution from another forum that may help you ( http://computerhaven.info/forum/tm.aspx?m=41159&mpage=2):

    1. Click Start, type regedit.exe and press Enter

    2. Navigate to the following branch:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\[extention here]

    3. Delete the sub-key named "UserChoice"

    4. Close Regedit.exe

    I hope that helps you
