Hi all, not sure if this is the best place to put this but I figured it would be my best bet.

So I had a browsing session the other night when I put my laptop to hibernate - the next time I turned it on, I was greeted with a crash recovery window instead and so clearly the session had been lost. (I tried looking through history/reopen last session & tabs but they came up empty)

What I'm wondering is - is it at all possible to recover that session, either from the hiberfil.sys file or from the crash dump?

    Oh, and I'm on Windows 7 64-bit.

No unless there is a history list there not much you can do at this point in time. I should know I had that happen to me and lost all previous sessions. That crash dump is for windows only not the browser you might have to edit the hiber.sys file to see if you can see any settings but if you can't locate any then your broswer has lost the history and reset it to default thus no history remains to be recovered.

What browser were you using? The firefox session restore has save me some hassle more than once. I would also take a look at your event viewer to track down why the problem happened.

If the system rebooted then no. RAM is volatile memory and anything in RAM is stored to the hard drive during hibernation, and ntldr looks for the hiberfil.sys file during boot. If your system crashed upon resume, then there may have been a problem referencing that hiberfil.sys file, in which case, the saved state from memory is now gone.
