I've had my alienware M18x R1 for almost 1 year. I bought Windows 8 Pro from a retail shop and installed it on my desktop so I thought after a few months of playing around with it that I would like to give it a shot on my laptop. I installed it and all the drivers specially bios don't work; it freezes the computer and just restarts it. My OSD, play/stop, volume buttons don't show the normal boxed icons anymore.
Not really sure what's going on. Went to dell and spoke to them and they mentioned that I needed to ask for their permission to install Windows 8 Pro on my computer and that I should expect issues; how am I mean't to know? I'm hoping someone here has done the same thing as me and knows of any solutions that may fix the problem.
Oh and btw I did a OS write over Windows 7 and it worked fine but games wouldn't open so I decided to do a clean install and that was no problems but soon as that drivers won't install and it's just a problem.
Any solutions would be great appreciated!

Did you go to Dell's website such as
Drivers & Downloads | Dell US
and download the latest software/driver for the laptop? -
Yes I did. They only supply drivers for Windows 7

If I was in your position, I would first install SOME of the drivers from the Alienware R2 based on this information
Which are the main differences between the Alienware M18x R1 and the M18x R2 platforms?
then try to find some of the drivers from other websites for example
Alienware R1 uses the Mobile Intel HM67 Express Chipset, google it, then download the software (hopefully dell does not lock down their hardware for alienware)
I have a Dell L502X and I have problems with windows 8 even though there are drivers and software for it.
Worse case scenario, you might have to downgrade back to windows 7
