    Hi everyone

Currently having a problem with my ancient desktop; When it loads up I'm confronted with the MBR error's 1 - 3 seemingly random. I know how to fix this however what stops me from doing so is the irritating option: "Press any key to boot from floppy..."

Obviously I need the XP install Disk (XP SP3 OS) however even with this in the disk drive and I press any key, it simply states another error. There seems to be no way of getting around this, pressing F8, F10, F11, TAB, nothing. Could anyone suggest my course of action?

    Regards
    Renz

Renz, Have you tried going into the BIOS and changing to boot order (set the CD drive first)?

If this does not work you could try disabling all boot options except the CD drive thus bypassing the hard drive .
    Hope this helps, Josea

Hey well unless I've missed something I have no option to access the bios. It simply shows me an image of the motherboard maker (as usual) then goes into the "Verifying DMI Pool Data...." screen (above which there are a list of adapters (I think)).

Is there an option to get into the recovery console when booting from the install disc? There should be. If so, you should be able to just run "fixmbr" and that will help. At least, it can't hurt it any worse than it already is ;)

Renzakuken, ^^^ Pitabred is spot on, If for some reason you still cannot boot from CD try pressing f2 or esc shortly after power on to access BIOS. If you post your model I am sure the correct key to press can be deternined; unless we are talking IBM 5150

    Hi everyone

I managed to access the Bios by pressing the Del key, after fiddling around i managed to realign the boot order selecting CD as the first priority. Having got into the Repair feature windows listed the possible actions, namely fixing the MBR. Once this was completed I reset the desktop and, instead of the MBR errors, was told that the OS could not be loaded (or something similar). After face-palming I decided to wipe the damn thing and start over.
Thank you very much for showing me how to access the Bios setup ;)
