After month of trying, my computer just won't play nice with XP Pro. I've encountered unexcepted freezes, BOSDs, system-wide crashes, and even refusal to reformat. I've deciced it's not worth the trouble saying with it, so I'm switching back to MCE (which was what originally came with the computer). However, before I do, I just have one quick question: Does MCE degrade the system performance compared to Pro? I've heard that MCE contains built-in bloat and slows down your system dramatically.

No, it's basically the same, as far as I can tell. I generally know pretty well what's running on my system, and there aren't any extra services or background processes that I've noticed; and I know at the kernel level it's exactly the same as xp pro, so I don't see how it could be slower.

MCE is basically XP Home, plus some media playing extensions. It is certainly a bit of performance degrade to XP Pro, and if you are in the habit of using tools like Group policy editor, you would be somewhat disappointed. But the difference is not much.

No, MCE is based on xp pro, not home. It does have the group policy editor, encryption, etc. I believe the only restriction is joining a domain is disabled, however there's a hack to get around that; basically you're getting xp pro for less money.
