I am in need of a program that will generate ID3 tags from the filenames of my MP3s. I've tried two programs, but neither resulted in success. I've tried CDDB MP3 Tager 3, but I got an error before it would edit the tags. (It was some "Invalid Class Typecast" error). The other program that I tried is called MP3 Organizer. The problem with that is that I want it to take the artist from the first part of the file name and the song title from the other part. I can't figure out how to go about this.

Another key feature (most important) is that I would prefer that it be able to delete the values for Album, Track Number, Year, Comments, and anything else (I only want the artist and the track name).

Does anyone know of a program like that? I've got a program that works good but I can only do one at a time. If I don't get any suggestions, I'm down with going one at a time, but it would be a long process.

    Thanks!

Try a google search on mp3ext. Its got a steep learning curve but its very powerful and will do all that u want, and more.

That program messed up my icons. I've uninstalled it but my icons still show the bit rate. [ :(!]

I couldn't figure out how to get it to get the tags from the filename. I kept getting some error.

I blame that program for everything that is wrong with my life.

Lol, dont blame the program. It did what it did. You didnt read the manual. I didn't say it was going to be easy. You can turn off the icon handler. Its in the prefs tab.

They keep coming back. What an evil program.

    Here is an alternative.

    The Godfather

Its very powerful, much too powerful for my uses. Read the features and decide whether you like it or not.

Oh, that's a nice looking program. I'll have to give that a shot next time I'm on my computer. I'm on my sisters laptop right now, so I can't do it now.

    Thanks!

    ---

Edit: I got down to downloading and using it, and I must say, it's awesome! It did exactly what I want it to! It wasn't too hard to use, I just forgot to update the tags so they didn't take effect. They have a nice little flash video that explains how to do it, so it was extremely helpful.

That is a great program! Thanks for the suggestion. If I could, I would give you a hug.

The least I could do, after I steered you the wrong way the first time.

You steered me in the right direction the first time, but the program uninstaller is to blame, since the program is still installed.

Thanks again, I appreciate it. My music collection is so organized now.

TheGodFather (Gecko linked to it above) might be able to do what you want, but I don't fully understand what you are trying to say.

I did a fresh install, so MP3ext is no longer a problem for me. My icons are loading great, everything is smooth, and my iTunes library is finally organized.

    It feels great.
