You can also copy over your PST, though email accounts will still need to be configured from scratch.

You can transfer all of your Microsoft Office preferences, including Outlook email account settings, by running the Microsoft Office 2003 Save My Settings wizard. After you reinstall Office, run the wizard again and import your settings.

Remember, you still have to perform an import/export from within Outlook to save your email messages. You can also make a copy of your pst file.

If you export/import, you have to export/import each folder (i.e. Inbox, Sent, any individual folders), as well as you will need to export/import your contacts, calendar, tasts, etc. Outlook doesn't export everything in one big file or at least I haven't seen Outlook do that yet. You have to do them all separately.

It's very easy to export all of the folders at once. Run the import/export wizard, and when it gets to the part about choosing folders, highlight Personal Folders and tick the Include subfolders box. I've been using Outlook for quite a few years, and this works each and every time.

Instead of going through all that trouble I used something called Outlook Express Backup Genie, it comes with a free trial so if you are just gonna be moving it once then the trial should be fine, but if you then decide years later to move to another computer, then you might find that the problem might not exist anymore, so you buying it may be worthwhile, but all the solutions above for manually backup work just as well the backup genie just does it all for you.

@pt9386: The original question is about Outlook, not OE. I doubt the OE express backup will work with Outlook.

Sorry I forgot to say it, but it does. I used it to backup data from Outlook 2003 and Outlook Express before.
