I am syncing about 8 GB from my laptop hard-drive to my 16 GB Flash Drive ( A-DATA C702 16GB Flash Drive)
MS's SyncToy has a problem when you first sync in that it reads the time stamp UTC on the Laptop and the local time on the Flash Drive.
This is a known issue of SyncToy (it is #2 of the FAQ on MS's website -- an issue they have not fixed in over a year...)
They suggest selecting the option to check the files to see if they are actually different -- but after that, everything should be fine.
Well it keeps coming up that SYncToy wants overwrite most of the files b/c of the time stamp. And I have to spend 1/2 an hour unchecking every file not to do it.
So I thought this time --just let it sync and overwrite. The files are identical but MS suggests that will solve the time stamp problem.
Well it is 8GB of info and 6! hours later ... it is still not finished! It is now about 80% done.
Does that seem right!?!
I know the Adata flash drive is a slow write-- but I copy and paste that amount of information onto it in about 2 minutes. (I am not sure exactly how much time.)
So it seems to me it is SyncToy's problem... Anyone have any suggestion.
I tried SureSync during a 30 day trial and it has a ton of problems syncing the laptop files which are ntsc and the flash drive which is FAT32. There is a work around that apparently but at the time I did not have the patience to figure it out.
Anyone have any suggestions? I move between 3 computers and a server drive in different locations all the time. I know I could do an online version of syncing but I travel in places where access to internet is not easy (yes there are such places.) I want to keep it all on a portable flash drive.
I picked the Adata b/c it is retractable and it has a sturdy place to put a keyring through.
I haven't found both those features in any of the others -- I will lose the cap no questions if there is one and I will lose the drive if it is not on my key ring and I've already lost a Sandisk because its key ring option let the ring slip through because the sides of the drive came apart just enough to let the skinny ring it come with (which you need to use because the hole is so tiny) this happened with 3 SanDisk drives -- 2 different models.

I forgot to mention that I use XP SP3 and my laptop is an ASUS z70va with high end on everything at the time of purchase.
Also, I was wondering if the fact that I plugged the Flash Drive into a Rosewill RHUB-310R Red USB2.0 7 Port Shining Standing Hub With Power Adapter slowed it down and also that I did not use the power adapter -- I just plugged the hub into the laptop (which was on AC power.)
MS SyncToy 2 6 hours+ to sync 8GB!?!
