Wow...thanks for the link, I will have to put that on when I get my lappy.
-
i've actually tried this hotfix, but noticed that the registry entry was already there. i think either the rightmark clock utility or the notebook hardware control app added that to my registry.
-
From the looks of the KB article, that reg fix is only if you choose to disable it after applying that hot fix.
The problem is, I can't find the hot fix... -
it seems that you have to ask microsoft for it, pretty poor really. i dont know why you just cant download it. if anyone gets it please host it for the rest of us

Found via Google:
http://www.amdzone.com/files/WinXPdualcorehotfix.exe -
are you positive that's the right one? It is coming from a site called AMDzone. I'll test it as soon as my BRAND NEW laptop is done reformatting (relieving me of all of Dell's bloatware).
-
In addition, Intel isn't the only company that makes dual core processors -

Hey guys,
Can anyone tell me does this actually make a difference in performance of your laptop at all? is it worth installing it? -
I found this:
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=983781
Also i found that almost everywhere i look the AMD X2 CPU's are mentioned, this is probely because they have a general bigger isue with this and that people with Intel probely mostly wont noticed it.
The fact that X2 CPU's needs a driver also might also help in that more AMD then Intel people find this patch. -
"Note This solution favors performance gains over power savings. Although benchmark performance scores may improve, battery life could be negatively affected. Accordingly, this kernel policy change may be disabled by a registry key to allow for maximum flexibility."
I'm not sure its worth the risk. -
Am I correct to assume that in the reg fix, you put 1 was the DWORD to enable this. 0 to disable?
-
But the loss of batteri is afaik only when working with full load all the time since the CPU will just throttle when not used so would should not feel it at all. -
But does the hotfix create a situation where the power-saving technologies don't function as they should. That's the unanswered question with this hotfix.
All my resarch around the hotfix suggests it has more application to the X2 then it does to the Core Duo. I guess I'll have to test it out and see. I'll probabby make a ghost image that can be restored, just in case the hotfix goes nutty. -
But i realy dont think you will feel it on the battery, i think its just meant as a "Well it COULD happen so dont blame us" and for laptops with desktop CPUs. -
I found some sites saying that this fix will be in SP3 when that comes out anyway.
Sadly i dont have the links atm since i was not sitting at my own computer when finding it, but ill see if i can find it again. -
Some info on dual core fixes can be found here . Although it is from a AMD section it is still relevant.
