    Hey guys,

I have the following problem. I have been using MS Office 2007 since something like have a year with XP and everything worked more than fine. At the beginning of the week, I got my new Laptop (T7500, 1GB, Vista Business 64Bit). All of the other applications like PP, Excel, OneNote,... are doing fine, except Word. No matter if I open an empty or a 8MB document, it takes years if I want to switch to other applications running at the moment (e.g. firefox, EndNote, Icq, etc.). The speed within Word is still ok, though.

I was wondering now, if someone has the same problem (and a solution) and if maybe the (only) 1GB ram is the axis of evil. Probably its to few for Vista, because I had no probs at all under XP.

PS: A switch back to XP is not possible at the moment and bottom line, I like Vista and like to keep it.

I forgot to mention, that it is not only the switch to applications which takes time, also when I want to click on the taskbar or something like that.

Ctrl+Shift+Esc, see how much RAM your using. If it's around 800-900, you may need to get more RAM, 1GB

Jep, but still the strange thing is that when I am working with Excel I have similar RAM usage, without those delays.

try running word by typing in "winword.exe /a" in run (Win + R) and see if this problem goes away.

I read it, and i re-read it. Heck i read it a third time but i thought you were just asking a random question. That's why i need a calculator to tell me if "5+5=10" or not. I'm kinda slow that way. :D

Just to answer the question, the little windows browser came up, but slow as everything else.
After following SmoothTofu instruction that disappeared, too. :)

OK, i figured out what winword.exe /a means, BUT if I start it without Add-ins, I am not able to use EndNote, unfortunately, this is essential :-(

    Do you have any ideas?

I think I could figure the problem out : EndNote!

After I deinstalled all of the Add-Ins in Word, EndNote turned out to be the issue. I wrote the support if they have any idea how to fix it. In the WWW I was not able to find an answer.

That command disabled all add-ins. Many things add little plug-ins to Word; most of these you'll never notice, but it might disable some functionality.

Yeah, like Adobe Acrobat if you use the standard, prof. or 3D version, the reference manager EndNote, etc. :(

I am having the exact same problem. Everything runs fine, except when Word 2007 is open, then everything else slows to a crawl. T61p 2.6 GHz; FOUR GB RAM, 200 GB 7200 rpm drive, 256 MB Video card. I can have photoshop, adobe, powerpoint, illustrator all running at same time and there are no problems. Enter Word 2007, then other programs, even just moving a folder on the desktop, barely crawl. EndNote is installed, but seems to work fine.

    Suggestions?

Do you use EndNote in Word and do you have a 64Bit system?

ENDNOTE X1 is the problem. Adobe in Word works without a problem. I uninstalled Endnote and computer works fine. I contacted Thomson (Endnote) about the issue. Apparently there is no current fix or upgrade for Vista x64 bit users. Please contact them to encourage them to fix this flaw! Does anyone know of alternatives to Endnote or Reference Manager that would work in x64bit Vista?

    Hi!
Any news to this problem? I am having the exact same trouble, but strangely both on Windows XP-64bit and Windows XP-32 bit. Any news greatly appreciated.
I have contacted Thomson, but no news yet.

    Thanks a lot! Jorg
