Hey guys just cleaning up my computer and optimizing it. I was wondering what the best way is to go about disabling programs on startup? Seems a little overwhelming as there are so many processes and I am not sure which ones I can turn to manual or disable and which ones I need to leave alone.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Can we ask why you want to edit MSconfig? If your computer has good enough specs which according to your sig, it should be running pretty well. If it's to disable startup tasks from bloatware, you are better off running CCleaner and disabling non important startup tasks there.

First it would help to know what OS you are running as well as if it is a clean install. It may be easier to help you if you post a screen shots of MS config as it is now - startup tab and services tab. (I assume we are talking about the AW in your signature.

I don't know if it is necessary, as my computer runs very fast. I just thought I would do anything I could to optimize.

    I am on Windows 8.

Yea I figure I would disable startup tasks that don't need to be there (bloatware). I just don't know which ones to do.

    How to optimize Windows

    Step 1: Install Windows

    Step 2: Leave it alone

You can use ccleaner or msconfig to remove startup entries. Just leave your services alone. I can't you how many "optimized" Windows installs I have had to repair over the years.

In windows 8 you need to disable start up programs in Task Manager, but take note of the above poster's message.

I totally second the above. I believe the OP started another thread and basically said the PC runs fine but just wants to optimize it. The problem is that Windows 8 has a very good memory manager so tasks running in the background are rarely if ever a problem because W8 will idle them and allocate the memory to a newer task. Disabling tasks with a well running PC is a recipe for disaster.

If the OP really wants to optimize the PC, I suggest going with an SSD.

In other words don't fix it if it isn't broke.

best optimization is to uninstall unwanted/rarely used apps/games, and run an anti malware program like superantispyware once a week
