I was planning to upgrade my A190 from xphome to pro, but with 13 mins left of installation i got the following error msg.
The procedure entry point GETIUMs could not be located in
the dynamic link library MSDART.DLL.
And now it wont let me cancel the installation and i cant get in my pc, nothing I can do. i have tried to install from cd but it just sets up some files and starts me off at 36 mins left of install only to have the same thing happen towards the end. Anyone knows how to fix the problem, so that I can install the xppro.
Thanks everyone!

I've done a check on the Microsoft site, and there seems to be a solution.

When you said that you're upgrading your OS from XPHome to XPPro, did you format the HDD before install or is this an upgrade CD?
If you're trying to install the OS on top of the existing XP Home, then that would explain the problem. The MSDART.DLL file has been corrupted or has been replaced with a different version by another app. If this is not an upgrade version of XP Pro, reformat your HDD and install from scratch, it should work.
Also, if you already/still have XP Home on your HDD and this is an Upgrade CD to XP Pro, restore the system to XP Home using the Sony restore CD's and then find & replace the MSDART.DLL file with the one on the XP Pro CD. Reboot and try installing XP Pro again.

Thanks Venombite, mine is XPPro upgrade version, and i was trying to upgrade to the xppro from xphome, since i still want to keep the pre-install sony software. and you have mentioned that to fix the problem is find & replace the MSDART.DLL file with the one on the XP Pro CD, but i am not sure how to do that. when i upgrading to xppro, it automaticlly replaced the file orginal file - msdart.dll, so i do i fix the problem?

Now that I know this is an upgrade. You may want to try this, assuming you don't have any files on the system you want to keep, if so, back it up before trying.
1. Restore OS using Sony CD's
2. Replace (manually) the original MSDART.DLL file with the one on the XP Pro CD (it may give you an error/sharing violation when trying to overwrite, if this happens, you may be out of luck)
3. Reboot the system and then try upgrading to XP Pro.
If these steps don't work for you, you may just have to lose the Sony software that comes with the system. Unless they come on a seperate application/driver CD like some HP systems do. If not, your only way is probably to do a clean install. I'm going to assume the Sony Restore CD's use an image to restore the OS, rather than an actual XP Home OS CD & App/driver CD. If this is the case, you may not be ablet o to a clean install using the XP Pro Upgrade CD. You will require an original 98, ME or XP Home CD to continue the install. After this, you pretty much have no more options, unless you buy a fully installable version of XP Pro & not the upgrade.

I have seen this problem several times when upgrading to XP Pro. It seems to be very reliable--it happens when the Windows setup is registering components and has about 13 minutes left to go on the install. The easy fix is to just shut the computer down when the error message appears. Then restart it and it will resume setup with about 30 minutes left on the install. You will lose a little time, of course, but now the install will finish normally. I have never seen any problems result from this method and everything works ok.

I personally hate upgrading OSes. While a litte more expensive, I always recommend wiping the hard drive clean and starting with a full version of whatever OS you are installing. That usually ensures that you get the best out of your new OS.
Good luck. -
Can anyone help. I tried to upgrade my PC to SP2 and near the end of the installation I received the useful killer msg "Procedure entry point GETIUMS could not be located in dynamic library MSDART.DLL". Fortunately when I crashed out of this I was able to restore my system back to before I started. I need some help to update the MSDART.DLL (I assume). I have read the link below about updating using MDAC but how do I do this. Do I download the executable and just run it (double click on it?) or must I be in safe mode?? Any help appreciated. Thanks
