So I install MSN & it wont sing in. & says that you are not connected to Net messanger service.

I removed like 80% of windows components & services & killed many left over services & all apps have been working so far. But MSN wont work.

I tried trillian it wont work nether just keeps trying to connect.

I tried the Connection troubleshooter & it said that something is wrong with IE offline settings. but what on earth does it mean?

MY IE Proxy settings are OK
    I registered the soft..something.Dll
    Firewall is Off

You know... based on your post reinstal the OS and keep it as it is, it may work..

    Serious answer:
I think its is very difficult to figure out exactly which service you need to restart.
If you can, get an exact error message - and the OS may help, I'm not sure if its going to be the same for XP & Vista or if its going to be different.

And the firewall has got nothing to do with this.

Yeah...a day of virtual OS emulating & I finally found it:

MS Mail and mapi Component under Network components in nLite.

Its useless component if you dont use messangers.

I think different components will have different uses for different users.

If you can live without it, fine.

This does not necessarily mean it is useless though.

Also - if you class them as usless it may be reasonable to elaborate why.

Anyway. Well done for getting it to work!

    MSMail and MAPI

Short for Messaging Application Programming Interface, a system built into Microsoft Windows that enables different e-mail applications to work together to distribute mail. As long as both applications are MAPI-enabled, they can share mail messages with each other.

    Needed only for:
    - Send To Desktop context menu option
    - Windows Live Messenger
    - Windows Desktop Search
