i got a question about Windows Live Messenger.this wont be the first time i used it. i had it a while ago when this message came up so i got rid of it. i can get installed just fine but signing in is a whole other story. right from the get-go i get a message saying the service in down. i have trilian right now and talked to my lil bro at home who was confused at first. i guess my question is how can i get Live to work again.![]()

-
try using apatch to remove uneccessary advertisements etc
-
i have tried numerous reinstalls. and hapreet, what patch are you talking about?
-
can you explain it better? also attach a screenshot if possible
-
while finding the installer for Live, i came across two versions of Live. One of them (from msn.com) talks about some "i'm initiative" and the other (from get.live.com) is just the standard messenger. also the remember me/password/ auto-sign buttons are grayed out.
if you cant read the font, the error says:
"Signing in to Windows Live Messenger failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. Error Code 80070005" -
"apatch" is what its called.. www.apatch.org
also try seeing if the windows live messenger service is enabled? -
i dont understand what you mean by "is the service enabled"?
also apatch will make Live look 10x better without all that useless junk. -
wht os ar u using??
-
i have vista home premium 32-bit.
-
Do you have a firewall? You need to make sure MSN is allowed to access the internet
-
press the windows key+r
then type in services.msc
and see if theres any windows live services?
because it seems to me that the error message is saying the service is disabled. -
harpreet1988: the only Live serivce in that list is the setup service.
flipfire: i have ZoneAlarm and messenger is allowed on the internet side but not the server side.
i dont know if this helps at all. i downloaded this fron get.live.com. -
Here's what I found:
Hope it helps! -
if i try that will i lose all my stuff?
-
back up your stuff first, then give it a try. but b4 that have you tried running the program as administrator?
also you said "not the server side" what do you mean by that? have you tried letting it run on the server side? -
while doing a backup, im a newbie with this, i got an error saying there is not enough room on my recovery drive and to free up room. how would i do this? when i open the file in the recovery drive, i am greeted with a message about altering files and can go no further. the drive states i have 4.98MB free of 6.59GB. what do i do?
-
anyone there?
-
I don't think its a good idea to save files to the recovery drive. just make a new folder in your c: drive and backup your stuff to there, or an external hard drive(if you have one)
-
the only options i have are the recovery drive and the dvd drive.
-
burn a dvd? because the recovery drive is only to be used for reformatting your computer back to factory installed state. the only way to use the recovery drive for storage is if you burn recovery cd's/dvd's and then format the drive. have you tried giving live all access through the firewall? try disabling the firewall and connecting to live messenger.
-
if i remember correctly i tried that before and my stuff did not fit on a single dvd as i have close to 40 gigs of suff. and im not to keen on using multiple discs. any other suggestions?
-
let me do some more research, i'll get back to you if i come up with any other ideas.
Edit: hmm...now that i come to think of it...i remember in xp, i used to make a new user...copy over all the files to the new user's folder, and delete the old user....idk if this workks in vista though.
Edit2: right before you delete a user account in vista...it has an option to delete files, keep files, and cancel. -
i have tried Messengers 8.1 and 8.5 as well as going thru Windows Live Messenger Support. the latter is not going well.
-
Ive never had good experiences with msn messenger. Ive always used a 3rd party. If you have 1gb+ ram go for a new IM called digsby, its got sooooomany features its not even funny. But if your looking for a slimmer one, maybe trillian or pidgin are good choices. PLus the support for digsby is the best, all teh developers mod the forums and answer questions very quickly. Good luck
-
i think i will take your advice and forgo messenger as its more trouble than its worth.
-
i have an e-mail from Windows Live Support saying they are sending my problem to the product for further investigating. just for kicks, should i reply to the e-mail?
-
do you do file transfers? if not then best thing of all is www.meebo.com
-
-
i am using digsby.
