    Hi folks,
I had tried Macrium Reflect Free v5.3 on my Win7 SP1 and works really well. Then decided to image my other XP SP2 system with the latest Macrium Reflect Free v6, but before actual Macrium installation i was prompted to download WAIK components and create Rescue CD, as instructed, i did. At the end of download, the pre-installer tried to create zip image of Rescue CD (WAIK), and then boom, c00021a BSOD!

Is there any possible cause for it, i know it's software-related as the system was checked against HDD and RAM failure and all the diagnoistic tests have passed with no errors.

I'm sending the screenshoots here, thanks in advance.

Note: I have UPHClean which cleans user profile hives on system exit, so the article on MS knowledgebase doesn't apply to my situation i think.

Did you try to create the recovery dvd again.

I have used v6 and made the recovery dvd and it worked fine for me.

Here's my diagnosis. I tried Acronis home 2015 image cd on my older laptop and it caused no boot or wasn't able to load to use and when I switched back to Acronis home 2013 cd everything from image creation to making a image worked fine. I would say it would be software related that your system is unable to do what the latest version of Macrium Reflect based on it's chipset and older O/S of XP.

I do know the exact reason that causes BSOD. The system didn't give any BSOD prior to WAIK Rescue CD creation. I couldn't install Macrium because there wasn't enough space on my drive C, and Macrium doesn't allow me to install itself on any other partition except drive C, which is a shame.

Actually, after getting BSOD, the Rescue CD (WAIK) zip package is staying there as if it was created successfully, but i'm not sure about the integrity. What should i do?

You should not do an recovery from an image if you are unsure of it integrity, I would delete it and see if you can create any more free space and try again, I wonder if the bsod was caused by you running out of free space as the recovery image was being created.

    Hi John,
I did so much effort, but for some reason, especially, if i use ReflectDL.exe which is Macrium's agent for download WAIK and the installer, i usually get BSOD upon exiting this process or when i just click on it, it's doing something hidden including installing background services/drivers, but no luck. I only managed to download pe3x86.zip which is the actual WAIK component, but i have no idea to make it ISO with Macrium because Macrium wants ISO file instead of zip file.

By the way, the versions newer than 5.2 requires SP3, whereas i have SP2, and that might be the another problem also.

I'm stuck at this point and i can't find a good way to image/backup my entire system ensuring the job.

There are a few free backup/cloning software, but i have only used Acronis and Macrium, I prefer Acronis but it does not see the ssd in my Win8.1 tablet, when Macrium does.

Below is a few free software for backup/cloning i have not tried them, there are others just do an internet search.

Make sure you backup you data, so you dont loose anything if the software goes wrong.

Hi John, and sorry for late update.

After pulling some of hair down, i decided to make an extraordinary thing, but it seems Macirum FREE doesn't allow me to do this. Here is what i'm intending to do:

I decided to disconnect my built-in IDE "system" harddrive of my XP SP2 machine mentioned on this thread, and connected it to a 3.5" USB enclosure, then later, i connected USB enclosure to a Macrium-installed ANOTHER PC to fully image that drive (not clone) to another external drive, but Macrium didn't recognize the external drive that i'm going to image. I mean, i wanted to image an external drive (in fact, XP SP2's system drive connected to external USB enclosure), to another external drive.

    Is that possible?
