A few words of praise for Reflect...
Am in a process of finetuning 10 ltsc + getting programs and settings together on my new Dell 5540. Sometimes need switching back and forth between original 10 pro and new 10 ltsc. Don't have the luxury ftm of having several SSD's to swap (and opening up the 5540 is a lot of screws). So using Reflect images.
ltsc\pro Images are on a bitlocker (unlocked) external drive. Simply pick an image to restore, Reflect builds it's boot wim on the pc itself, reboots, keeps the external drive unlocked, restores all partitions flawlessly. Works so well, amazing reliablity and ease.Vasudev, Mr. Fox, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -

It's amusing that the link for v8 downloads the final version of v7. As a free version, that's already quite an amazing bit of kit!
VostHost asked "Do I check the box for viboot when I install?" but you never answered that, Spartan. I find myself in exactly the same position now and would like your advice. Despite my signature, I'm installing Reflect on a backup machine being an MSI GT73VR with twin 128 Gb SSD's for its C: drive (RAID 0).Last edited: May 24, 2021 -
Macrium Reflect (Free) 8.0.5963 fixes other bugs
good Morning June 7, 2021 7:07 p.m.
Macrium Reflect has now received the fifth update after the release of version 8. Here, too, some problems that had crept in were quickly resolved.
- Clone:
- When executing clone jobs in 'batch' mode, the clone dialog was incorrectly displayed at the end of the job. This has been fixed.
- The system tray icon could be hidden for planned clone jobs. This problem has been resolved.
- Windows PE: If Windows PE has a low horizontal screen resolution of 800 pixels or less, the restore / clone dialog could be “cut off”, making the “Finish” button inaccessible. This problem has been resolved.
- ReflectUI.exe: ReflectUI could generate a program error under Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 and lead to several icons being displayed in the notification area. This problem has been resolved.
- Backup on DVD / CD: Reflect could generate a program exception if optical media were ejected at the end of a backup. This problem has been resolved.
- Backing up files and folders: When searching for password protected / encrypted file and folder backups, the correct password entered was rejected, causing the search to fail. This problem has been resolved.
- Data storage warning: The warning at the end of the backup, if the retention cleaner deletes all backups before executing the backup, was not suppressed if the retention rules were explicitly set to retain 1 Full. This has been fixed.
- Misc: Various minor fixes and changes to improve Macrium Reflect.
As a hint afterwards. The free version of Macrium Reflect will not be officially offered until later. If you want to try Macrium Reflect 8, you can also install the 30-day test version of the Home. After the 30 days, this will be converted into a free version. An update in the free version currently means that the v7 will be reinstalled. -
Macrium Reflect (Free) 8.0.5994 with many corrections 21, June 2021
Mr. Tim sleeping again
Macrium has made a new update available for download for the Reflect (Free) backup program. This time the release note has been filled for almost all areas.
Bug fixes and Improvements v8.0.5994 - 21st June 2021
- Windows PE
When mapping a network drive in WinPE/RE the error "A specified logon session does not exist. It may already have been terminated." could be encountered. This has been resolved. - Rescue Media Builder
We've added the WinRE Boot\Resources folder contents to the rescue media build for improved loading visualization. - Log View
Log Files View would crash if a completion message exceeded 255 chars, this has been resolved. - UI Theme
- Some Edit controls in viBoot would fail to respond to mouse interactions when using dark themes. This has been resolved.
- When using the light theme, some UI elements would incorrectly display a dark grey overlay. This has been resolved.
- Consolidation
- The standalone consolidation tool 'Consolidate.exe' rejected correct passwords for password protected backups. This has been resolved.
- A rare condition could cause consolidation to fail with a 'Bad file descriptor' error. This has been resolved.
- Backup File Name
- When an Incremental or Differential had no backup set to append to and created a Full, the {BACKUPTYPE} Parameter would be incorrectly replaced with the requested type rather than 'Full'. This has been resolved.
- A backup set with alternative locations, where the Full backup was created with Macrium Reflect v7.2.4732 or earlier, could cause the backup file name to exclude the default Image ID and target the wrong directory. This has been resolved.
- We've added a 'Collision Sequence' number that persists for a backup set when the Full backup has the same name as an existing backup. This ensures that backup sets with similar names and no unique prefix, can be easily identified by file name.
- VBScript Generation
The auto generated VBScript source template failed to run with a code syntax error. This has been resolved. - Scheduled Tasks
In some circumstances, when editing non SYSTEM account scheduled tasks, Reflect would ask for a username and password even when one had already been provided. This has been resolved. - Restore
- The locked drive dialog incorrectly showed drive 'X:' rather than the locked volume when prompting to restore using using the rescue media. This has been resolved.
- When launching a restore from an image file in Windows Explorer, the restore Wizard would be suppressed for the first run after a reboot. This has been resolved.
- The Restore/Clone automatic resize was not locking the size of MBR WinRE recovery partitions. This has been resolved.
- Existing Backups View
The Existing Backups view could become unsynchronized with the "Folders To Search". This has been resolved. - Backup Definition Rename
- Renaming a backup definition file could lead to an abnormal Reflect termination. This has been resolved.
- Renaming a backup definition file could cause the next definition in the list to incorrectly show the name of the file just renamed. This has been resolved.
- Network Path Auto-Complete
A long delay could be encountered when entering a UNC or network share path as a backup path. This has been resolved. - Server Plus
- When backing up Microsoft Exchange the incorrect databases, intermittently, could be listed in the backup summary. This has been resolved.
- Exchange backups could fail with: "One or more files failed the copy process" if the database path uses a different case to the defaulted case. This has been resolved.
- viBoot
The network adapter settings in the create VM wizard could be incorrectly hidden. This has been resolved. - Various

Macrium Reflect FREE Edition 8.0.6036 14th July 2021
Mr. Timmy hadn't the change log. But here it is....
Bug fixes and Improvements v8.0.6036 - 14th July 2021
- Installer
On pre-Windows 8 systems we've improved the detection of Windows SHA-2 patches to enable installation to continue. - Rescue Media Builder
- When determining what size partition to create for USB rescue media, the Rescue Media Builder will now always allocate at least 20% more space than is required for the files to ensure enough space is allocated.
- If the Rescue Media Builder could not find enough space on a USB stick to create the rescue media, the log could report incorrect partition numbers and size requirements. This has been resolved.
- An invalid filename for an iso file could cause the iso file path to be malformed. This has been resolved.
- Macrium Reflect UI - General
- We've added a Full/Diff/Inc backup type column to the Log View list.
- The 'Type' column in the 'Definition Files' view is now sortable.
- Disabled menu items could sometimes appear as enabled when using the light theme. This has been resolved.
- When trying to rename an XML definition file, the ‘c’ character could not be entered. This has been resolved.
- The mouse pointer detection zone for check-boxes in the Browse Image dialog box was too small, making them difficult to interact with. This has been resolved.
- Under Reflect Defaults, some text labels in the Email Settings could become misaligned. This has been resolved.
- Existing Files View
- We've changed the icon in the list of folders for network shares that can't connect and for folders that don't exist. We've also added a 'Connect' context menu to prompt for authentication and to display an appropriate error message for local folders.
- Intermittent connection issues could cause the list of backups in a shared folder to be empty. This has been resolved.
- Removing the last folder in the list of files to search in the existing backups view would not refresh the backups. This has been resolved.
- Rescue Media
- When authenticating a network share while booted into the Rescue Media, clicking the Show Password button could cause the Rescue Media to reboot. This has been resolved.
- The backup run dialog could be clipped when running at 800x600 resolution. This has been resolved.
- An incorrect VSS warning message box was displayed when imaging removable drives in the rescue media. This has been resolved.
- We've increased the time-out when connecting to network shares to reduce connection failures.
- viBoot
viBoot in VirtualBox mode now uses per-user repository for VMs instead of per-machine configuration. This is to bring it in-line with Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager UI. Existing VMs will be migrated to per-user repository when viBoot is restarted after installation. - Removable Drive Images
Images of BitLocker encrypted flash/removable drives would fail with a file system error. This has been resolved. - Clone/Restore
A drive letter could be incorrectly assigned when 'None' was selected for the target partition drive letter. This has been resolved. . - Server Plus Exchange
- Exchange backups now show a more appropriate error when attempting to backup databases that changed location.
- Encrypted and password protected Incremental backups could fail to append to an existing backup set. This has been resolved.

Just did some upgrading to 8, all well. (Will not mention an old 7 .msi installer that 'someone' had deleted from a machine, made normal upgrading (or uninstall) impossible. Not even to be found in any older disk images, needed full clean of registry etc of any old Reflect traces then do a fresh install. Worked fine.)
Then made the new rescue usb media. Tested booting, all well ....but one surprise, the bitlocked C: os drive was showing up with all it's directories. Took some headscratching and reading before finding that the wim builder had 'auto unlock bitlocker volumes' ticked as default.
So the usb stick inherits the key (or password?) of any unlocked drive(s) at the moment of creation of the boot media. Having the unlock as default may perhaps be useful, but evaluating any possible implications.

Ref post above. Reflect 8 in action.
Today's normal, monthly windows update failed on a win 8.1 laptop (initiating any download inexplicably locked up everything). Could surely have done some troubleshooting, but welcomed the opportunity to test 8 in action > restore OS partition.
A recent OS partition image (done with reflect 7) available, booted with usb stick, perfect restore.
So, v8 accepts images done with previous versions, dealing with bitlocker no problem, works with 'old' OS's, and is as reliable as always. Was expecting all that :O) but nice to get confirmation.Papusan likes this. -

Make sure to right-click on the file you just downloaded, go to Properties, then hit Unblock from the bottom right as it may be blocked since it was downloaded from the internet, if you don't do this before you run the file or extract it, then it may not install correctly due to insufficient privileges.
To prevent this automatic blocking of files in the future so you don't have to go unblocking every file you download to ensure it runs properly, check the guide in this thread:

Did not take long before it was put to use again :O) Some 'great' ideas to improve the firewall, happily shoveling stuff around in win + regedit. All well until ...gasp
So, the long plague of reinstalling win and re-tweaking a zillion things, or, maybe, chose the 2 min 38 sec path... Knowing how to do image backups should be mandatory by state law for anyone ever touching a pc.
