Hey, at school, my comp imaging teacher is having a printer issue, and the IT dept can't get to fixing it for another month, but they said if a student can fix it, then they can do what ever they need to.
I ahve gotten it fixed for the most part, but i need an admin account, which they said they will not give us (me and my teacher) but they also said (because if legal reasons i suppose they had to put it this way) if i "some how managed to create my own account with admin privileges" it would be ok.

So.... if i boot into DOS using a boot disc, (in windows, the NET User function does nothing) and do the NET user commands to make an account, will that be server side, or locally on the windows machine?

    Code:
    net user username password /add
    net localgroup "Administrators" username /add

i should have asked this earlier, cause im done with the current project, so i need to do it tomorrow, because we get a new project on thurs.

    Thanks

That command will only make a user locally.

You need to be a domain admin to add/set users into Active directory.

If you have a local admin account, you can try fixing the printer issue with that.

If you succeed in fixing the problem are they going to hire you?

    we're running XP...

and the computers are set to boot off of the network, and nothig nelse, and the BIOS is locked, so i could not boot off the boot disk.

So, i just booted into normal windows (pulled out the lan cable) and since i could not be an admin in windows, i couldn't make even a windows account...

    any one got ideas?

Well, unless the techies are willing to assist you in giving you the right tools (admin right, password ...) to work with; I am afraid that you are threading on the subject of bypassing system/hardware security here.

    cheers ...

Yep. I understand you have permission, but since the mods can't verify that, I fear this will be locked soon (besides, NBR doesn't fool around when it comes to threads about gaining unauthorized access to machines). I recommend Googling for some answers. There are plenty of them out there.

Yeah Im afraid your gonna have to negotiate with the network administrator to give you some sort of access or an account with group policies for limited privileges.

Trying to run linux through windows with limited privilege sounds hard enough.
